I have marked my 1000th post by making this topic. When you first came to the Ambrosia Forums, what was it like when you first joined? Did it put you off at first or were you quickly accepted, etc.

The very first post I made was to the place that was, and yet was not: The Ever-So-Grand-Place that was The Void.

It was a little difficult at first, but I eventually got the hang of the place. Seems like the BnB is the "New Void," these days, which, of course, it is not; it's just the new place to put random topics that seem to come to our heads (like this one).

Never forget the speej and Pamplemeese!

October 2001. I lurked for about two weeks before my first post, which was on the Nova board.

We had colours. And Karma. And we respected our elders and only spoke when spoken to and.....
This remarkable sometimes incoherent transcript illustrates a phantasmagoria of fear, terror, grief, exaltation and finally breakdown. Its highlights have been compressed on this recording to make their own disquieting points.

I was an innocent board member who asked why the Raven has 100 tons of free mass instead of 300 something like EVula's survival guide said.
"It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker, that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own interest. We address ourselves, not to their humanity but to their self-love, and never talk to them of our own necessities but of their advantages." ~Adam Smith

It was pink when I joined. Very, very pink.

I actually started out on the original EV boards. Then I panned out and found this place. At first, I was happy because I thought I found another subforum for EV conversations. Then everything changed...

It was much the same as it is now. I started out in the EVDC coming up with plug-in tricks. Then I had a short-lived run in the Nova boards bar. Then I came here. BnB > *

I started out lurking, and then posting in the Nova bars. It took me a good while before I came over to the BnB, and longer still until I started #ev3ing. It took a while to accumulate clout, and I still have that slightly bitter resentment of never having gotten any karma, but I found the community very inviting. :P

I started back just before the transition to the current forums. I stayed in the Nova board, and my spelling was horrible. (A good way to gain some humility is to go back and read your first posts. ;)) Soon, my interest in politics got the better of me and I headed over to Just Chat for sophomoric debates. Eventually, I ended up here somehow. I still haven't tried this so-called "#ev3" thing, and I'm not sure if I ever will. The forums are enough for now. :P

It's amazing what you can learn about the forums!

You were a lurker, Hamster? I would never have guessed. :P

But what is #ev3? I've heard a lot of people talking about it, but I either have not seen evidence of it, or it's been flying over my head constantly. Whatever it is, though, I have a feeling that it and EV:N are/are not related.

#ev3 is even less related to EVN than the BnB is.

Back in the day... we had UBB, and Karma (oh, how I miss karma), and the BnB was a beautiful black color, unlike the disgustingly bright color it is now. Well... every board was a different color, actually... I don't remember my first post. I think it was something dumb in Just Chat.

I never lurked before I started posting, either. Just registered and started looking around, and posted something meaningless. Cool, huh?

Then... the IPB came. I miss UBB... but... well, things just don't last.

When I first came here I was banned by Soviet Mikee and then OctoberFost. Then I was allowed to help run the place.

Read the third post in this thread. It will enlighten you on #ev3.

I originally posted on the nova board, then somehow ended up on #ev3 before migrating over here to the BnB sometime before the switch. It was very colorful around here back then.

My first post, on the EV webboard. The Ambrosia UBBs were just over a month old, and I was a sophmore in high school.

Last month, I graduated from college.

*sigh*

My urge to gravedig was only barely suppressed. That was a close one.

I think my first post was a bar intro, in which a little girl comes in looking for her lost hamster, and then kills herself with a pistol. It was very dark, and started me off looking like a villan. :P

Oh, how I miss that little guy! No other smilie, ever, can compare.

I can't remember what things were like when I joined, except that it was a golden age. Everything on the boards was much better then than it is now. Everything!!

I first joined here in '03 sometime, with an assumed name that I can't quite remember, or the password. (lost in the bowels of the internet, e-mail and all :P )

I never posted much, and hovered around the EV boards. I was quite the shy person.

Then I assumed this guy, who grew up in the BnB. I think my first post was here... (rough place too, eh?)

Edit: WTF? ^

I started out on the EV board, and wasted no time to post new topics. I had questions that needed answering. Mainly I was upset that I couldn't sell some cargo podsd I bought. Then the Boozerama Bar changed my life, but I didn't get too far into the series of them, just the original. Then I came to the B&B, but I also had a brief stint as the creator of a wildly long-lasting "pub" in the PoG forum.

This post has been edited by Rawzer: 27 January 2007 - 07:51 PM

"I refrained from getting rid of this topic, hoping that my fellow B&Bers would simply let it drop to the bottom of the queue, and then disappear forever, creating an example of what the B&B thinks of useless posting. This did not happen." -Myriad
