Hello boys,
this topic is part of the Winter 2007 Redline Racing League; it's intention is to organize the first session for Group 7. I will try to do this as quick and short - Who are we racing with? The participants of Group 7 are as follows, with time zone and number of players which can be hosted (as submitted on registration):
Basically, all of us except Goldfinger should be able to host the races. I have a fairly stable connection, but my Mac isn't the quickest. So if somebody else is willing to act as a host or backup host, please let me know. For now, I'm setting myself as the primary host. I'm hoping for Don as a backup host because I know that he has several G5 standing around... - Where will we race? We will have 4 races, as seen on the RRL website: Race 1 Track: Small Rally Track Weather: Sunset No of Laps: 6 Car Class: FC (Lancia Fulvia 1.6 HF, Ford Escort RS1600, Renault Alpine A110) Race 2 Track: Bardagi Road Weather: Moonlight No of Laps: 7 Car Class: D20 Charger, Mustang, Mercedes SL300, Camaro Z28, Mustang Boss 302, Chevrolet '57 Bel Air Stock, Firebird Trans Am Race 3 Track: Lime Rock Park Weather: Daylight Car Class: C20 Maserati 3200GT, BMW M5 E39, BMW M Coupe, Porsche 911 3.2 CS, Cadillac XLR, Smart 6-cyl, Ferrari 308 GTB, Porsche 968 CS, Volvo S60R Race 4 Track: Pembrey Weather: Daylight Car Class: K10 Superkart 250cc On the above mentioned website, the Race Administrator (Brook) has conveniently collected all needed redplugs for this session in the fridge. Please make sure that you are using the authorized plug-ins. - Now, for the most difficult question: When are we racing? First of all, we don't have to hold all 4 races in one go, we could split it. Last season, we mostly completed a session in one go. Like this, one session last about 2 to 3 hours. As we are racing short tracks, we should be done in two hours. We have 2 weeks to complete the session, the deadline is Monday the 21 January 2008 at 08:00 UTC. This gives us two good weekends. In case you want to know how UTC translates to your local time zone, I suggest this link. Seeflat already mentioned to me that he's good on Sundays from UTC 17:00 to UTC 22:00, with limited availability during the week or on Saturday. So I propose these times, and we take it from there: Sunday 13th January between 17:00 and 22:00 UTC Sunday 20th January between 17:00 and 22:00 UTC Please state if you can race at these times. If not, please state your availability. Please also check if the time zones and no of players you can host are still correct. With this out of the way, Let the games begin! Splitting it in two would be wonderful as I could practice race 1 and 2 and then 3 and 4. I'm gonna really need it seeing as who is in this group. If others prefer doing all 4 races in one meet, I am ok with that also. I can host the races if its suits everyone. My hosting has been pretty stable from what I've seen... up to 8 no lag... depending on the other players. So, Im sure 6 should be really solid. If we are voting for a definite time I'd vote for UTC 1900 (my son is a having his nap at that time) other wise I might have a bit of a distraction as my wife pulls him away from my office screaming "but momy I want to see the fast cars" Looking forward to seeing you all on the track. See Flat p.s. bet I get my ass whooped by the S60 ! ;-) -------------------- |

Thanks Tomte,
The time windows are ok for me. Earlier is better, but I can live with whatever works for the group. As far as hosting, I think I can do 6 now that I have a fast machine. My upload is about 500 kbps and as I look back through old posts the rule of thumb seems to be: allow about 70kbps per player. I've been lazy and haven't hosted games lately, so I'll need to verify... I see that we are spanning 9 time zones, so we might have to experiment to find what works for the group in terms of latency. Strictly in terms of geography, SeeFlat, yours might be the optimal host I am fine with either single, or split sessions. Whatever works to help the most people to attend. |

Ok, I myself are pretty busy atm, no time for practicing. So I prefer doing only the first two races on the 13th.
Proposal: Race 1 and 2 on the 13th at 19:00 UTC Race 3 and 4 on the 20th at 19:00 UTC 19:00 UTC makes it - Don and me at 20:00 local - SeeFlat at 14:00 local (2:00 pm) - Maxwell at 13:00 local (1:00 pm) - Goldfinger and bobrk at 11:00 local (11:00 am) Primary Host: See Flat (thanks for volunteering Secondary Host: Tomte Please give me a shout if you have any objections or other proposals We can have some pre-race multiplayer practice sessions. I will probably in the Lobby some time before 19:00 UTC on Sunday. Once the race time is set I will PM everybody the name and password for the game. We could allow a couple of spectators (which will need to park of the track), if the host and everybody agrees. Otherwise, please be on time. If one player is not there 15 minutes after the session start, the player will not be able to race and get 0 points (for that race). You better try to join some hosts until Sunday (if you have the time). If you get a chance to enter LegacyOfLies, take it. Good races are guaranteed on that host!
So as this will be your first Multiplayer experience and your first tournament as well, we'll give you a warm welcome. That doesn't mean that we will let you win, though... -------------------- Yours truly,

When Legacy is running, you will see it in the multiplayer lobby in Redline itself. Just enter from there. From the Legacy website you never know if it is running or not. Racing with others is a whole different experience compared to Time Trialing, where you always get to choose your line and speed without hindrance. You need to be able to anticipate goings-on in the pack and how to take a curve when there is already someone occupying (or approaching) the spot or line you wanted, and try to make sure they don't intersect. Much. |

Got the PM. By the way, there's an option when sending PM's where you can trace whether the recipient has received the message.
And yes, I'm proud of you all, well done! I feared it would be much more complicated. -------------------- Yours truly,

Hi Tom, found the option for tracking the sent messages. Thanks. When I sent this out, I did look for an option to do send same PM to multiple users and after wasting time looking I opted to simply cut and paster to everyone in single PMs. Is there such an option that you know of? thanks, SF -------------------- |

I'd just like to offer my services as backup host if necessary. Although I'm on the West Coast, I've hosted a bit the last couple of nights (up to 4 cars on Bagardi, Small Rally and Lime Rock) and no one was complaining.
