8000 point level 11 demonspwan assassin.

Things of note:
1. I did not know armor could degrade(i assume slimes) hence the crappy stuff.
2. That cape kicked ass
3. Black scales(+9 armor - 3 dex) are awesome at level 2.
4. Torment is one hell of a spell(half HP to EVERYTHING on screen. Yes even you)
5. 88 orcs killed.
6. You'll notice that on level 10 of the dungeon i managed to gain 3 of my gods skills. This is because about 25 of the dead orcs died in a very narrow hallway that they just kept pouring into for a good 50 turns. can't carry that much meat so my god got one hell of a sacrifice.
7.This game is so damn amazing.
8. I'd probably be alive if i hadn't been so greedy to just run toward a ring, which ironically turned out to be a ring of teleportation that would have saved me.

Edit:
Oh and one certainly needs to find a safe place to stash stuff. So much i was carry would be really damn useful later but was dead weight at the time.

Ha, that is nice, especially with torment as a level two mutation (demonspawn are awesome in that respect, if you can get them past early levels, they're actually really good).

I hate orc priests as well. They can Smite you, which is unblockable (unless you have the Shining One or Xom as a god and they randomly decide to intervene).

A good place for stashing loot is in the temple (since there are no monster spawns there), or on the second level of the Lair, since all monsters are animals which don't pick up items, and aren't jellies. Jellies eat almost any item, even doors.

Here's another reason I love this game:

Things like the Scimitar of FLAMING DEATH exist.

I think orc priests have killed, or at least greatly contributed to killing, at least 3 of my 5 characters, 1 of which hasn't died yet.

Does anyone play the terminal SSH version? It's a lot more confusing and I can't seem to get the color palette right.

Well, hey. I wanted to keep my Spriggan Warper, but they kept dying off. Not my fault. At all. Nope.
And yes, it does work.

On that note what in the hell advantage does a warper get? I mean the upside it seems of most other mage classes is that you can ensure that you get that field of magic early rather than hoping for a spell book, but how does one live in a demon infested dungeon when your skills are:
1.Moving distant objects to you.
2. Blinking(which is significantly less awesome until you can control it)
3. Throwing weaponry with more accuracy.

?

Also while the wiki is nice I haven't been able to dredge up any good arenas of discussion from players who've beaten the game. I keep running demonspawn sin just because i've gotten an idea what to do with it, but i'm not really sure if im supposed to keep pumping my dex and relying on my Sin like nature or just eventually wind up like a warrior with chainmail and the works. Granted some of this depends on my stat growth and Spawn mutations, but i'm wondering if there's anywhere else one can look for guidence when you reach the ,"Holy s### i'm still alive?" point.

Thanks for pointing out this game. it's exactly what I've been looking for for a long time. An accessible roguelike. I've played a couple rounds with a Mountain Dwarf Reaver. They look like they have potential. first level of the dungeon was no problem - it's nice to have melee and spell ability, without having to depend on one or the other.

I'd still be alive if I did get poisoned, then tried a scroll in an attempt to cure, but teleported myself into a room with 4 or 5 guys.

Just a note, this game is turn based, meaning that if you have to, you can stop moving and nothing will happen. E.g. I see a centaur, I stop moving, time stops, I can see what I have then teleport away ect.
Oh, and this game is way way like Cythera.

The only thing is you can't unequip them. They still work fine.

As a spell class, Translocations isn't particularly useful unless you need to move away from enemies, or want enemies to move away from you. Sometimes there will be areas of the dungeon which are surrounded by walls which can either be broken down with a wand of disintegration/digging, or blinked into. Other than that, it's pretty much only used for getting out of trouble (especially if you don't have teleport scrolls). I doubt warpers could be played solely with translocation magic, they'd have to be a hybrid.

Yeah, I haven't found a whole lot of good discussion either. You could look up what each stat does, but typically you want to level up stats that will help with whatever class you've chosen. It also varies on what sort of playstyle you'll be going for. Do you want to sneak around the dungeon and avoid trouble, or be able to take on two cyclops at once? Usually you won't want to fully specialize in only one stat, but you'll probably lean towards one or the other. These are all good reads for anyone who has stat questions:

QUOTE (Wiki)
Strength affects the amount of damage you do in combat, as well as how much stuff you can carry without becoming burdened or overloaded. High strength makes it easier to learn armour skill and any melee weapon skill. Having more Strength than Dexterity enhances your performance with heavy weapons like maces, flails and two-handed axes but makes you less damaging with finesse weapons such as one-handed blades, whips, spears and tridents. Finally, strength decreases the heavy armor penalty to dodging.

QUOTE (Wiki)
Intelligence affects how well you can cast spells as well as how much nutrition spellcasting takes. Your ability to use some magical items is also influenced by your intelligence. Characters with high intelligence gain first levels in spellcasting skills faster.

QUOTE (Wiki)
Dexterity affects your accuracy in combat, your general effectiveness with missile weapons, your ability to dodge attacks aimed at you, and your ability to use thiefly skills such as backstabbing and disarming traps. High dexterity makes your character learn ranged weapons skills and unarmed combat skill faster. Although your dexterity does not affect your evasion score (EV) directly, any calculation involving your EV score also takes account of your dexterity. When your character has much higher dexterity than strength then he is more damaging with finesse weapons such as one-handed blades, whips, spears and tridents but is less accurate with heavy weapons such as maces, flails and two-handed axes.

As a side note, you CAN save. it's more like a quicksave function, as once you start, the save is deleted, but you don't have to keep the program running if you're in the middle of a crawl.

Mountain Dwarf Fighter got to level 5, before prince Ribbit, along with some eye thing that paralyzes you, killed me. I could have probably taken them on if they didn't work together.

I've noticed inaccessible shrines, as they were behind the see-through walls. Is there a "bash" command or something for guys to break down walls, or statues? I couldn't find one in the in-game documentation...

If you get a description of the walls, it says "only the most powerful spells can break these walls" or something like that.

Aka use a disintegrate spell or a wand of digging. Also using a certain god's 'bend fabric of space' ability.
On a side note, I beat the Minotaur's labyrinth by running until I found a passage that went towards the end. Then I used blink until I got passed the Minotaur and ran to the treasure, grabbing what I wanted and leaving the rest. I was hoping for some spellbooks, but I did get a cool staff that casts spells using its own mana, then replenishes itself using your mana.
Also, I'm going to cheat on this file until I get to where I'm comfortable in the game, then I'll stop. Maybe.

I've learned to deal with those easily. Just use long range weapons and blink if they get too close.

You could see an ogre-mage (confused), 6 ugly things, a yaktaur, a two-headed ogre and 4 ogres.

<snip monster list and event log>

I had cleared the Orc Mines, Hive, Snake Pit (down to the last level), Swamp (got the rune), and had cleared the Dungeon down to 18. I was working my way through the vault, when I got surrounded. Originally I was fine, but my teleport didn't kick in soon enough, and a two-headed ogre got a lucky hit. Then I remembered that teleports go into action based on the amount of actions you do, not the time of the actions. You can actually just switch two weapons back and forth (half a turn), and the timer will count down faster. >.< So depressed after that one. Although, it was my first successful rune run, so that's something.

@chamrin: blink.gif wow that's weird and on the first level too.

What's a good god to choose? I ran in to the temple with a unaligned character for the first time.

Edit: I'm currently playing a spriggan stalker.
