Full Version: SEEKING LUNATIC FRINGE AFTER DARK MODULE

I am seeking the old module for After Dark on OS9 for Lunatic Fringe. I just discovered the Fringe Player here:

http://www.sealiesoftware.com/fringe/

Thanks so much!

Oh, man, I'd forgotten about that game. So awesome.

Where else would your spaceship enemies attack you with a ball and chain!

"The Slicer will catch you with your pants down. Ow."
"This is the enemy base. Do a quick size comparison with your own. Feel jealous? Their cafeteria serves better food, too."

Edited to add another funny quotation.

*pines*

Not even Tetrisphere evokes as much emotion in me as Lunatic Fringe. Alas for the After Dark that once was, and for the Windows Computer that now is.

Lunatic Fringe and Spaceward Ho!...two classic games I wish dearly I could play again (well, the last one at least the non-shareware version, but I am cheap).

I too have fond memories of the Lunitic Fringe--blasting baddies, invinci-turbo-ramming the enemy station and überships....ah good times.

Oh, and I think I've got the 'Spaceward Ho!" demo sitting around in one of my old MacAddict CD's somewhere.

I remember always wanting to find a registration code for the space shooter "Centaurian". Anyone played it? It was on one of the 10 first Macaddict CDs ever released. The CD where they trash a PC using various blunt instruments, and the one where they dragged a PC after a car.

Now, that's a nice way to make people remember their CDs. laugh.gif

(And yes, I was very young, had no internet connection, and had no way of getting the registration code legally, so don't shout at me you meanies. sad.gif)

yeah, could someone get me Lunatic Fringe, too? Please PM me if you can, I will send you my email, but I don't want to post it up here.

I have it. I'll warn you though: Fringe Player is not very stable under classic.

I'm gonna install After Dark on my windoze machine which is running Basilisk II. Hopefully that will work (and of course, I have to find my After Dark 3 CD).

Here's the module though. (Link should be fixed.)

Wow...it has been a long time. It wasn't exactly how I remembered it being but that was the fun of it: the memory slowly coming back as I played! I realized that Lunatic fringe potentially had a large influence on Escape Velocity. The radar color scheme, the simple 3D rendered sprites, and basic game design seemed very similar. I had not remembered it being so similar.

Does anyone from Ambrosia care to comment on wether it was influencial in the making of the Escape Velocity Series?

Thanks!

I'd make a bet that the Escape Velocity games were based on the old games Elite or Elite 2: Frontier.. The latter being a very special and interesting game. Grab an Amiga emulator and get hold of the game somehow.

Nah, EV isn't based on Elite. I can never remember the name, but all of the games like this are basically based on this one, ancient game. I recall someone playing it on a TI, once...
Divals the Conqueror
I remember I used to play Lunatic Fringe on my parents' old SE back in the day. I loved that game, then someone deleted it *hiss*

Okay, Destroyer E, your link doesn't work. For me, at least.

I only want the game because I used to have that After Dark module on a old computer, and I posted that fact on the AmbrosiaSW forums. Subsequently, over the years, I have gotten three requests for this game by people who have gone gravedigging! So, if anyone asks again, and I had this module, I would be able to provide it for that person.

It should be working now.

Anyone got a working link?

The link in the very first post of this topic seems to work just fine.

I think you're referring to Space Trader. But Elite's combat system is pretty much the same as EV, just much more primitive (and something Space Trader didn't have).

I think he meant the Module, which I have (and said I'd upload but forgot). This link should work. If it doesn't, I'm busting skulls and kicking puppies.

Got the download fine (THANKS DESTROYER!)...poor OSX 10.4.7 doesn't seem to want to execute Fringe Player though...I'll see if I can hack my way through it...

I remember this game! I loved it! Too bad I have a PC. Anyone know of a port of this for the PC? Or can someone port it to a PC? It can't be too complicated can it? blush.gif
LNSU
*sigh*
The code for this game has not been released publicly, so it can't be ported to a PC. You can run it in an emulator such as basilisk II or somesuch. Besides, porting code that old to a modern Windows computer would be way too much work to be worth it.
cramill
Yeah, I knew it was a long shot. Thus the blush.gif
