Hi everyone!

I really would like to get an information about the transistion of Snapz Pro to Intel macs.

I'm currently working on my MacBook Pro and the overall performance of Snapz Pro is quite well, but there are some issues with the mouse pointer (see my attached pictures).

I really would like to *buy* a new version, which is compatible to intel macs. And I could say for me, that the audio features are not so important as the video features. Maybe it could be a way to release a new 2.5 version in rosetta with good video features and later this spring a UB Version with all features?

kind regards,
alex

Hello-
Since the Intel Macs were released earlier than indicated by Apple, we do not have a Universal version of Snapz Pro X 2 available yet. But we are hard at work on a major revision of Snapz Pro X 2 which will be Universal (native for both Intel and PowerPC) in addition to having a bunch of new features. In the meantime we are looking into releasing an interim update to SP X that would not be Intel native, but would be fully emulated and functional under Rosetta.

I'm afraid I do not have a timetable or release date as of yet.

David,

I talked to one of your representatives by phone yesterday and she didn't mention anything about the interim update. Since I'm ready to purchase today, will that update be available as a download to any paying subscribers or would I have to purchase again?

Like I told your rep yesterday, I'm not looking for a concrete answer, just for getting an idea whether I should hold off or not (as my primary use will be on my Intel iMac).

Many thanks in advance..
matthew.

Hello-
If we are able to release an interim update, it will be a free one to registered owners of any previous version of Snapz Pro X 2.

PLEEEAAAASSE hurry! smile.gif

I bought an iMac Core Duo today and have a software company in my neck that wants me to produce some tutorials of one of their products. That crippled mouse pointer kills it all for me. I desparately need a working version of SnapZ as soon as possible. Are there any betas? Do you need testers? I'll do it!

PLEASE!

Take care,
Christian

Hello-
We're working on the update as fast as possible.

I discussed it with the developer yesterday evening, and was assured we'd have something soon.

Beyond that and more specific than that, I just don't know.

David, I want to be impatient. I really do.

It's so hard sometimes.

Hello-
Try this, open your Utilities folder and launch the Activity Monitor. Does it list Snapz Pro X as an active process?

If so, select it and click on the Quit Process button. Then select Force Quit from the dialog presented.

Go into your Users/your_username/Library/Preferences folder and drag the com.ambrosiasw.snapz.plist file to the trash.

Then open your System Preferences' Keyboard and Mouse pane. Click on Keyboard Shortcuts. Be sure the Capture screen to file option is selected and set to command shift 3.

Then double click Snapz Pro X. You should get the splash screen with a drop down notice indicating SP X is up and running in the background.

Click on Ok to dismiss the notice. Press command shift 3 - any luck?

NOTE: Duh. I just noticed the date on the post I'd replied to. Download the latest version of SP X and you should be golden. The 2.0.2 version would die on MacBooks and Minis as soon as it was invoked.

I don't mean to be rude, but what the heck is going on with you guys???

There are posts from A YEAR AGO that say that the universal version is coming "soon"! I don't know about your definition of the word "soon", but mine doesn't go anywhere near a year!

I was brought back to this forum by a post on DaringFireball.net that linked to an old thread about piracy and copy protection. Very interesting reading, but then I started thinking about Snapz ProX, and remembered that you guys had been promising a universal binary some time ago, and there's still no indication of it EVER happening.

Sorry, I guess I'm feeling grumpy tonight. Sure would be nice if you all could give us a little update regarding why you seem to have run into a dead-end regarding a new release. I'm finally running an Intel Mac, and though SnapzPro does function on it, I know it could work a lot better if it was native. Not to mention the simple fact that I'm trying to avoid having to use Rosetta-based apps at all, due to their overall lag on the system.

Thanks for listening. Here's hoping we'll be hearing some updates "soon"!

;-}

I believe they did get an update out, though I could be wrong. There have definitely been a large number of posts since last year about this, and they've been answered.

Now, I know you probably are just here to ask about this one thing, but if you stick around (which would be cool) we don't really approve of gravedigging. You've got a legit question, but it would've been just as easy to start a new topic. smile.gif

If you'd like, feel free to PM one of the Ambrosia employees, as well.

They got out an update that made Snapz more compatible with Intel Macs but it wasn't a universal binary, mind you. That update is still to come.

Although that is technically correct, the update that they provided is still extremely glitchy on the Intel Pro Towers. I use 2 flavors - a 2.66 and a 3.0 in addition to my 2 laptops - Macbook 1.8 and Macbook Pro 2.33 - and you can definitely see a difference in the way this piece of software handles. On the Intel Towers SnapzX Pro flubs constantly. It simply just quits out. I then have to go in manually and restart it–sometimes it restarts and sometimes it doesn't. On the Macboook and Macbooko Pro - it can sometimes take almost 20 - 40 seconds (yes, I timed it) before the capture screen invokes. Just a little annoying, as this is not the behavior that I am used to for this program. Normally I would say it's me, but... on 4 machines, I doubt that.

I would like a more definite time table. We purchased this for our company about a year and a half ago and I would be more than happy to purchase a real site license if they were able to come out with a version that is truly either a Universal Binary, or simply Intel Native. (and when I say real site license, I am talking about 3,200 copies) As a matter of fact, make it Intel Native, as the other works just fine the way it is.

I was glad to see this post. I was about ready to express my wonder about this too! I kept reading posts about an intel version to be released "soon" and this was back in May of 2006. Whatever is happening, I hope Ambrosia can get past the programming hurdles that are holding the official release. I haven't seen anything as amazing in screen capture software as Snapz Pro X. So I bought it. And though it is slow for me, it does work on my Macbook Pro 17". I feel bad for those of you who can't get it to work on your "towers" though.

Maybe it will come out after Leopard is released (gravely hoping).

I'm sure you are very glad about this. So am I! Big news!
Thank you Ambrosia for getting this out!

I had been a long time user of SnapzPro but I stopped using it when I bought my Intel iMac a few months ago because it performed so slowly. I just downloaded the new release and it works like a charm. So far it responds very quickly. Thanks Ambrosia !!!
