Picked it up yesterday, but didn't get a chance to play it, so I took off school today, and I've played 13 hours straiiiiiiiight.

Best part: arrows stick into things. And you can recover them. I can't get over it.

Discuss.

I haven't gone out and gotten it yet, but I've heard it's very cool.

I might pick it up in a week or so.
Eji1700
Anyone got a good link of info? Never heard of this so I'll go check it out but I'm short on time lately.

Indeed I do: The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion
God 2.0
I can't get over the fact that they removed my two favorite skills from the game: Enchanting and Unarmored. sad.gif

Of course, I shall get my hands on it ASAP, as I am a big fan of Morrowind.
n00ser
Enchanting is still there, it's just not abusable anymore. Unarmored sucked anyway. You can't enchant armor you're not wearing. They also cut out medium armor, which is a mixed blessing, but I like it anyway.

They changed so much, and almost all of it for the better. Everything works. The compass/flag system is so much more useful than a minimap, which is still there in a way.

And you can poison your weapons. I could actually go on for a really long time.

I read that enchanting can only be used as a service from the mage guild, and not freely by the player. Perhaps they changed this in the release version?

Also, wether unarmored sucks or not does not matter to a style-gamer such as myself. My favorite character is my own custom called Sword Saint. Major skills: long blade, short blade, athletics, unarmored, enchanting. The focus of the class is to excel in fast and nimble combat using enchanted blades. Wearing only robes of course. Also, while you cannot enchant armor you don't wear, you can in fact enchant the clothes you wear.

Weapon poisoning sounds great. Now there is finally a reason to choose alchemy if you play the assassin type of character.

(By style-gaming I mean that I make my character based on how stylish and "cool" he will become, and put no thought into how powerful he might become.)

I could never figure out how to train enchant worth a damn in Morrowind, because I couldn't get my mysticism high enough to capture any souls. Allegedly my succeed percentage on soul trap is 60%. In reality it's more like 1%. My character is an archer/conjurer, except not so much a conjurer because it takes all my magika to summon a single lesser bonewalker.

At any rate, I have a feeling I could have an awesome time in Oblivion, with the vastly improved archery, and my PC could probably even run it, but alas - I now have several $40-$50 games in my "must buy" list, and I can't afford any of them. Oh well. I'll get it sooner or later. Seeing as I kinda like Morrowind, and can definitely see what's awesome about it even if I rarely play, I get the idea, from what people say, that Oblivion will be great.
God 2.0
Well, Morrowind is probably the worlds least balanced game, and magic in Morrowind is the most imbalanced concept in any game ever. Hope they have improved it in Oblivion, as 70% of all spell effects are worthless as it is.

I know your problem with mysticism. Basically, you cannot improve it unless you get Absorb Health, which is the game's most powerful and IMBA spell effect due to bad balance testing. All the other spells are useless, except the teleports and soultrap, and even those are only cast once every third week or so.

What you can do is download my rebalancing modification. It greatly improves magic so you can in fact consider using other spells than damage spells in combat.
LoneIgadzra
I've been running with Wakim's Game Improvements for a while now, and I definitely like the birthsign changes, but beyond that I am not familiar enough with the original balance to comment on the changes.

Also been using Redd's heads, which are the most awesome things ever. (Many of which are incorporated into "Better Heads", which makes all the NPC's in the game look approx. 50 billion times better.)

Yes, Wakim's game improvements first game me the idea to rebalance the game myself. My mod's goal is to make effect spells more viable to use. Take for example reflect magic. It costs an insane amount of magicka to add a chance to reflect spells. Problem is, for that amount of magicka I could just as well have killed all the enemies then healed myself. My mod has many similarities to Wakim's mod, and some stats are the same as in his mod.

I've taken it a bit further though by adding blank scrolls for enchanting, higher faction rank requirements, and made halberds function properly. Meaning the chop action deals the most damage.

I also have a mod that improves Dremora stats, and one that fixes a bug in a Telvanni quest. If you care to test my plugs, you can find them at www.planetmorrowind.com. If you want my main mod, the God 2.0's Morrowind Mod, PM me to get the latest version instead.

Nothing like WoW. Unless you solo all the time.
The combat isnt all just cooldowns. It actualy requires timeing skill. like when to block, when to duck and roll. Its not just %'s. Its alot more freeing

Right now im a warlock thief vampire whos pretty handy with a bow and sword.

Except for the fact that there is no multiplayer whatsover, lots of freedom, and a long story-driven plot. I have played Morrowind and can say it is amongst the best games I have played.

Oh, and welcome to the forums. smile.gif

So it's a single player game with a lot of combat timing in it.A PvC game?
Mackilroy
It's a single-player RPG, similar to KOTOR, except that it's more medieval-like rather than Star Wars.

And the combat is real-time, if I'm not mistaken… though I don't have the game, so for those of you who do, please inform us. smile.gif

KOTOR's combat is turn-based but looks real-time.
Zaldron
if anyone has played daggerfall, you know as well as I that they still have not reimplemented climbing of any sort back into the came. But i guess this is due to the 'load sections' between the castle walls...one day *sigh*

Hey sound silly but what's turn-based? smile.gif
God 2.0
Turn-based means that all actions in a game goes in turns, like on any table-top game. The good thing about turn-based systems is that each player can take his/her time to think about what to do next without the game continuing while they think. Some people find this to be boring and actionless though.

Nevertheless, Oblivion is a pure real-time game and not turn-based.
LoneIgadzra
Yet I don't think anyone would claim that Baldur's Gate is "boring and actionless".

Can cite an example for me?

Note that I am not the one who think turn-based is boring. Just so you don't get the wrong picture.

Civilization, Heroes of Might and Magic games. Exile/Avernum series.

Chrono Trigger

Possibly the best game in the world. You get +5 points for showing that you know of it.

I'll be purchasing Oblivion after class today. Once I've played it for a while I'll post a few impressions.
-esw-dragoon_77
I've only had a chance to play it for about half an hour, but I'm pretty sure I joygasmed all over the controller.
