Hello,
Is Screen Cleaner Pro just a joke? The program appears to just slowly darken my screen and then wash that darkness away. When leaving it on it appears to wash the same amount of darkness away every time it attempts it. I know it can't be increasing my screen's brightness the same amount every single time. There are limits.

Does this app actually do anything?

Here's a hint: it was offered for download in April 1, 2005 smile.gif

I think it does do something - however - it left 2 darker smudges on my screen... is it supposed to do that? I don't think it is... I had to restart my computer to get rid of them.

And the fun begins again....

Yes Screen Cleaner Pro was an April Fools Day joke that Ambrosia had released upon the world over a year ago. If only we had known it would circle the globe a few zillion times and come back and haunt our very existence.

Bonacci, this is not possible that it left 2 darker smudges. Did you quit the application before you resorted to restart? The "cleaning rag" will not vanish until all aspects of the overlay darken screen is removed. Also, once you quit the simple program it's darkening aspect of the screen is stopped.

I think Ambrosia Software should put some kind of "It's An April Fool's Joke" SOMEWHERE. Maybe on the download page, or maybe in the help file about ScreenCleaner Pro you get when you download it, but it's been over a year since it was released, and it woudl be useful if they said that somewhere.

Lord Seth… it is kind of obvious that it's a joke…

That's not entirely true. I have seen the program leave some darkened spots on the screen after the rag goes away, but they always go away a couple seconds later when the program starts the cycle again. I'm sure that on a faster machine (this is on a 400 MHz G4) the spots will go away faster than you can notice. Why Bonacci's machine is acting different, I don't know. Maybe his monitor really does have two darker smudges that weren't created by the program?

Screen Cleaner Pro can not leave dark spots after it has been quit.

Will AmbrosiaSW PLEASE confirm if Screen Cleaner Pro really works, or is just a joke? I'd like to know before I try it! dry.gif .

Well, digging up a 3 month old topic isn't a really good start. But from the information in this topic I would say that it is a hoax.

Uh, Tim, try scrolling up in this very topic. Specifically, read post #4 by MagnusApollo, an Ambrosia employee.

I'd completely forgotten I posted in this topic.

And Tim apparently can't read very well. sad.gif
