All of the sudden, today - when recording SnapZ Pro the qt movie plays back with funky lines through it and the colors are all off?

To put a finer point on my message. The software records ok for the most part, but after doing a simple desktop recording of my folders, etc. I noticed the most important point/decsription of the problem is there is a green line running from top left to bottom middle and also a ghosted green line on the other side making it almost a green V.
Any idea?
I am running 10.4.6.
thanks

Hello-
Which version of SP X are you running?

Is this a stock video card?

If not, are you up to date on drivers from the manufacturer?

What changes have been made since it stopped working properly?

I have a G5 dual 2Ghz 2GB ram with ATI Radeon 9600 Pro. As far as I know no changes have been made on my system. Should/can I reload the app? I have one license wondering if I can load the software on my powerbook?
Thanks for your input.

Hello-
It doesn't matter what you record, it all has the same green line in it, in the same place?

It doesn't appear on screen while you record, but only appears in the final movie?

You can install on your laptop with the same code - it's not a problem with us so long as both copies aren't used at the same time.

David,
The green lines where not at all on screen, but only showed up in the capture. But as of yesterday I recorded a clip perfectly.
Must have been my machine/ram or something - but now all is well.
Great product.
thanks

Hello-
Chalk it up to software voodoo for now?

If you have any further insights into the problem, or it happens again, please do let me know.

Hi.

I've just discovered Snapz Pro and downloaded it, and I'm suffering from the same software voodoo. sad.gif The problem is exactly as described above -- a solid green line from top-left to bottom-middle of the playback window.

I'm on an iMac G5 with all the latest OS patches and updates. I saved the video as a low quality MPEG-4 file.

However, I uploaded a video to YouTube to be able to show you the problem, and guess what? The version on YouTube is fine! This prompted me to try playing my local file using different software and platforms, and it appears that QuickTime and RealPlayer on the Mac both exhibit the green line problem, but QuickTime and RealPlayer running on WinXP don't. The video also looks fine when viewing the YouTube version on a Mac.

You can see the video I've uploaded here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjC57dsx6NA but to be honest, there's not much point, because it doesn't demonstrate the problem at all! I'd be happy to email in the file (~2.5Mb) if it'll help diagnose the problem.

On this occasion, I only want the recording for embedding in a website, so the YouTube copy will be fine, but I'd still like to get to the bottom of the problem before forking out my $69.

I'm not sure about Timsk, but this may be something relating to a G5 and the ATI Radeon 9600 Pro. If both have this problem, it might be something in relation to the drivers and MPEG playback. Or, it might be some sort of manufacturing flaw that occurred in a collection of 9600 pros included with G5 iMacs and Powermacs.

Try to download VLC and see if it happens again on the Mac. I believe that it uses a different MPEG decoder and does a lot of other things behind the scenes that are un-macish.

Also, why not use SnapZ pro to take a picture of the problem and post it that way?

Other people using different encoders have seen the same thing:

D'uh, yeah, that would've been a good idea! Unfortunately (well, fortunately... whatever) I've just rebooted my Mac and hey presto, the problem's disappeared.

Seems fairly clear it's not a problem with Snapz then, which is good, although I'd still like to know what's causing it and how to correct it without a reboot. (That's such a Windows solution!)

Normally you don't have to restart your machine. You can fix most problems with a log out.

Hello-
I've gotten two or three similar reports in the past few weeks. One user reported the problem went away if he used a different player to view the videos, another if he recorded from a different player, so far it's been a simple solution, but I am going to do some more testing here to see if I can reproduce the problem.
