Full Version: Snapz suddenly not saving movies

I recently had to reinstall my operating system, OS X 10.4.7, and when I just went to copy a bit of footage, I couldn't find the saved document. The white icon appeared on the desktop as the doc was being saved, but then vanished. I tried again. Same thing. A Spotlight search for the document did not unearth it. Where is it? Was it even saved? My settings are to save new docs to the desktop. I have a iMac G4 flatpanel.

OK, I really need an solution to this. I managed to re-download and re-install Snapz Pro X, but what I got was image capture, not movie capture (I think). How can I REINSTALL the complete package I am purchased without having to do it in pieces through upgrades.

Before you try to reinstall, try taking a quick movie capture and when you're about to save it, change the video compressor to something else (doesn't really matter what).

If the test capture saves properly, you should be able to go back to using the compressor you have selected right now. I ran into the same issue, and this is how I fixed it.

** Excellent! Yes, I switched from Sorenson 3 to just Video and it saved the film as it used to. Did it again but reverted back to Sorenson and it also saved. Thanks for the great tip .... even though I have no idea how or why this problem occurred in the first place. Probably some permissions file got deleted.

I recall some time ago there was an issue with the same symptoms (I think) that involved a problem with the cookie QuickTime saved for the last-used compressors in Snapz. But that's as clear as my memory is on that one, so perhaps the upgrade to 10.4.7 caused the same issue again, and of course, switching the video compressor to something else causes the cookie to be refreshed with new "valid" data so the problem goes away.

[edit] Found it; from January 2005. Do a test to make sure when you restart your machine you don't have to go through the same process again [/edit]
