Full Version: USB Input is Flatlined

I'm running on an Intel Mac iMac 2GHx with OSX 10.4.7. Audio in is from a Yamaha mixer board into a USB port. USB audio input is selected from the System audio control. Audio level is good from the light bars on the mixer board, and on the mac System audio control. So input is getting in. But when I record a movie (with Mic track checkbox on), then play it back, the audio is flat at zero---no sign of anything, including on the level bars in the QT playback window.

I have a secondary analog connection from the mixer board to the iMac audio line in; when I select that input, the audio comes in and plays back fine. But of course I'd rather use the USB input for better noise performance.

Is there something I need to do to get the USB input to work, or is this a bug/unsupported features? Thanks.

Hello-
Unfortunately Snapz Pro X can't capture from some audio hardware input. Generally speaking if the Sound pane of the System preferences lists the device by name in the Input, then SP X *should* be able to record from it.

More robust audio capabilities are on the To Do list for the next revision of Snapz Pro X.

Even though it was in the sound pane list OK (that was how I was selecting it and checking level), initially it did not work. When I tried it the next day, it did work, so there must have been some sort of sequencing issue.

I'm having a related issue. Using a Cyber Acoustics USB headset on a G5 Dual 2.0, I get very low audio recordings with movies even when the input level in the Sound Preference Panel is set to max. Can't seem to find any way to control the levels in Snapz. "Auto mic input gain" doesn't seem to have any effect.

The headset is listed as "Unknown USB Audio Device". Is this what was refered to here:

I'm hoping to be able to record training clips so sync sound is important and I'd like to avoid having to go with a mixer, etc. to boost levels from another mic.

Hello-
If it is being recorded at all, then you should be able to affect the gain by unchecking the auto mic input gain option in SP X, then setting the gain in the Sound pane of the System Preferences.

SP X should record at the level set there.

Hi there,

I'm having exactly the same problem as Richg. Using a Senheiser microphone with a usb adapter on my 800mhz iBook G4 - this setup works fine in Garageband - but very low audio in Snapz pro 2.0.3 Any answers?

Hello-
Is the auto mic input gain option in SP X not having any effect?

What kind of USB adapter are you using?

If it's an iMic, does toggling the mic/line level switch have any effect?

Alas, I too am getting very low audio when recording in SnapzPro X on an Intel machine with a Blue Snowball mic.

The problem disappeared when I downloaded the high-gain firmware modifier from Blue's website.

[rest of message removed by sender... beginning left in case anyone else suspected SnapzProX for this same mic problem]
