Full Version: Snapz not working like it used to

I swear I never had this problem before.

I'm recording on-screen tutorials for a class. When recording, the mouse, windows and various functions act like my old OS9 machine did when it was low on RAM or running on Virtual Memory. For the past few years I have been using Snapz Pro reliably on my G5 OSX 10.4.9 with 2 GB RAM (1.8 Ghz Dual). I stopped using it for a few months and now this.

I've turned off Flip4Mac, trashed the plist files for Snapz and Quicktime, disconnected my network HP printer. I'm not sure if something I installed is causing this.

I've also fiddled with lowering frame rate, color, the Smoother and other settings to no avail. Unfortunately, the only thing that works is when I make the crop very, very small (about 3 inches by 3 inches on my AccuSyn 120 21" monitor).

Can someone please offer some suggestions?

Hello Eric,
Sorry for your frustration. Are you using the same version you were? If so, try updating to the current version 2.1. I would keep the color change set to none and keep your display set to millions. Are you recording audio as well? If not, make sure it's turned off, and try enabling the "Smoother" option. Hope this helps smile.gif

Thanks Evan. I'm using 2.1. It's weird. It's still possible it was always like this. It's very possible that nothing has changed. I cut the screen area in half and put on "smooth pan" . Seems to work. Weird.

I'll get by. Good software nevertheless.

Hey Eric,
By "Smoother" I meant the little checkbox that says "Smoother (but more CPU-intensive) video capture". You may need to click the little black triangle on the left f the palette to expose all the options. If you want smooth pan...well you can ignore what I just said smile.gif

Exactly. I followed you. Thanks.

Hey guys,

I love your program and I use it all the time for my podcasts but since upgrading to 2.1.0 I'm having nothing but problems.

The video capture works fine but the audio is always screwed up. I never had a problem with the previous version.

Check out http://www.allenrockwellphoto.com/images/snapz.mov

I am using a MacPro with 4GB RAM and several TB of disk space. For audio I use a M-Aidio Firewire 410.

I really depend on this product, please respond as soon as possible.

Thanks

P.S. I'd be very happy to downgrade to the previous version if that's possible

OK guys, please ignore my previous message.

The problem was not SnapzPro at all. Right about the same time I upgraded to 2.1 I also added two 1TB external firewire RAIDs ... the RAIDs are plugged into the same firewire bus as my M-Audio Firewire 410 .... so every time the drives did anything (spin up, spin down, turn on the cooling fans, etc) it would interfere with my audio.

Problem solved, I just eject the firewire drives while recording.
