I heard that EA has a
new distribution agreement involving releasing titles on Mac and PC at around the same time. On the other hand, they a
lready appear to be screwing it up.Not only have there been delays, but games previously ported to the Mac have had a long track record of being slower than their PC counterparts. However, this continues even to this day:
http://www.macnn.com/articles/07/06/13/ea....will.use.cider/As the article points out, not only will the games be using another layer of abstraction, there is also the problem that Mac graphics hardware has commonly been impotent. An exception-- My MacBook Pro has an 8600M, so I should be good for a while.
At any rate, it's unrealistic for EA to expend many resources making their games work on Mac without that abstraction layer (Cider) since the number of folks who could possibly run the game is small in comparison.
But damn, Halo 3 is going to be so awesome when they port D3D10 to Mac, amirite?
