Anyone here dig ruining other people in this series? I'm particularly interested in tracking down anyone who plays Generals and wants an online match.
darth_vader
I play Generals occasionally, but I'm pretty busy right now. I never really liked the online anyway, but if you can't find anyone else...
Trah
I have First Decade and Tiberium Wars. I rarely play them because i never feel like booting into windows.

well

it could be because Generals was the shittiest C&C game ever?

or because it was even shittier for Mac, which most people here have?
Zan
This is all true, however I have an unhealthy obsession with spamming Comanches, and I can't find my RA2 disks.

EA just released the original C&C Gold for free here: http://www.commandandconquer.com/intel/def...?id=61#NewsMain

NB: Page doesn't load in Safari. Use Camino or Firefox.

I have generals and i avoid the online like the plague. Nothing pisses me off more than when you have a game that they claim is a "Strategy game" when it's really a "Pick a rush + Micro" game. Sorry but just not fun for me.

C&C is just not as popular as the Starcraft series, or even Warcraft. I would say, for good reason.

You seem surprised.

...that the game that I had the Mac demo for is only available on PCs? Yes.

Ah, but you didn't say that. What you said could be interpreted as meaning that the image that EA is distributing doesn't work natively on Mac OS.

I noted rather sarcastically that you seemed surprised by that, as it is highly unlikely that the game would be released again for the Mac OS, much less for OS X. It can be tiresome when Apple fanatics have little sense of perspective or have unrealistic expectations when it comes to games being released for the Mac.

I heard that EA has a new distribution agreement involving releasing titles on Mac and PC at around the same time. On the other hand, they already appear to be screwing it up.

Not only have there been delays, but games previously ported to the Mac have had a long track record of being slower than their PC counterparts. However, this continues even to this day:
http://www.macnn.com/articles/07/06/13/ea....will.use.cider/
As the article points out, not only will the games be using another layer of abstraction, there is also the problem that Mac graphics hardware has commonly been impotent. An exception-- My MacBook Pro has an 8600M, so I should be good for a while.

At any rate, it's unrealistic for EA to expend many resources making their games work on Mac without that abstraction layer (Cider) since the number of folks who could possibly run the game is small in comparison.

But damn, Halo 3 is going to be so awesome when they port D3D10 to Mac, amirite?

I scarcely think he deserved that. He said that he was surprised that a game which had a mac demo wasn't actually released for mac. It could be considered tactful to wait until you get actually get a stupid n00b whom spells badly to tell them what stupid n00bs they are and how badly they spell.
