Video game characters live in a three-dimensional world, but gamers have only been able to experience two dimensions... until now. The 3rdSpace® Vest from TN Games takes gameplay beyond sight and sound, creating spatial awareness of the world your characters inhabit. Unlike traditional force feedback devices that rumble or buzz, the 3rdSpace Vest gives you precise impact where it happens, as it happens. Get pounded with body slams, crushed with G-forces, and blasted with bullet fire.

TN Games computer hardware and software revolutionizes the way people play video games and redefines the concept of interactive entertainment. Get dialed in with the patented 3rdSpace technology.

If gaming wasn't already on the hot seat, now those violent games your parents and senators hate so much can now simulate gun shot and other torso wounds. The TN Game's Third Space Vest is the work of physician Mark Ombrellaro who got the idea from a type of vest used in a real medical circumstances to simulate and investigate types of injuries.

The vest is designed with the shooter game in mind (even though it could be used for other types of games). It includes eight different zones that can apply a wide range of feedback — anywhere from a simple tap, to a full blown explosion-type of force.

This vest will be available in November for $189 and come bundled with a space game and Call of Duty II. A software development kit will be available shortly and expect patches to come for other big name shooters like the Quake, Doom and Unreal Tournament series.

I'll pass, thanks.

Well, someone had to do it.

I can see this going very badly for some gamers, followed quickly by things going badly for the company's lawyers.

When you die in the game you die in real life!

Weren't there a few horror movies based on that theme a while back?

It's such an old idea...

And, I like this idea. Might be intresting.

Hmmm, if it is simply a full body rumble feature, it's a bit too pricy. If it merely simulates impact, might be alright. If it simulates pain too, bad things are to come. Though I think this might be a case of too much immersion.

Respawn at the checkpoint! Respawn at the checkpoint!!!

But seriously, this is actually pretty cool. To simulate death it should actually deliver an electric shock, to keep your muscles twitching so you can't get back up. Anybody see that one X-Files though?

Anyway, assuming the feedback isn't going to actually disrupt your playing by causing you to lose control of the game, it would be pretty useful. I don't always notice the traditional red marks or whatever on the screen when I'm taking fire in a game, so this could provide immediate sensory information about 1) you're taking fire, and, 2) where it's coming from, all while your eyes are paying more attention to what's in your crosshairs now.

Actually this is nothing new. There was something like this on the Sega. I remember seeing it and thinking how awesome it would be until i realized the pointlessness of it.

I remember a rumble vest being for sale during the N64 days. Of course, it was simply a large rumble pack back then. None of these zone things. I hunted high and low but could never buy one. This, however, I would buy in an instant. i can see bunch of guys allowing themselves to be shot to see who could take the most pain. But also it has a way of testing how good you are, easy to maintain a cool head whilst being shot if your hands are just vibrating a little, if your whole chest is being shaken, it takes some practice to keep calm.

I'd happily own one though. Great at parties.

Oh yeah, I remember hearing about that before.

Now. A similar contraption has been used for years in the field of medicine. It's a vibrating vest used to help keep the airways clear in those with cystic fibrosis or one non-functioning lung.

I don't think that's quite what he meant...

Awesome. I've thought about designing a full-body suit like this for years. My idea was to modify a pressurized flight suit. I got as far as mapping out how many different chambers you'd need for a good full-body simulation. Then you pair it up with special omnidirectional treadmill...well, you get the idea smile.gif. Great that we're moving in this direction, even if I never got around to patenting it myself wink.gif.

Now that I think about it, we only need one thing...

Where's my motion sensing pants for the Wii?

Can't wait to see that game.

This vest even comes with handcuffs and ball gag.

It seems really cool. But yeah, too much pain and the companies are going to hear from lawyers. Any dial or such to in/decrease intensity? I have a high pain tolerance, but I don't wanna go around with the feeling that I just got my chest blown to shreds by a tank.

Lose at Mortal Kombat and the vest's neck hole constricts until you are gruesomely decapitated.

if it doesn't leave welts, it isn't useful enough.

A great way to teach the little kids on XBox LIVE they should shut up. Almost like smacking them over the internet.
