Hello, world! How are you doing? Anyway, I'm making a campaign for Mac Starcraft, and I was wondering if there were any mechanics people wanted me to add. I've got some cool things like a new upgrading system (you have to upgrade each individual unit to have a special ability), a new base-deploy system, and being able to choose among starting units for the next mission. But I'd like more ideas. It's cool, but as all things, it can get better. Idea's please?
EDIT:
And yes, I know I misspelled awesome in the title.

Factions.
It should be obvious that its the people who make a good story, so instead of using the old stand-byes in your little scenario, how about you change things up a bit by including the factions who have (thus far) seen little to no screen-time? The Kel-Morian Combine, the Umojan Protectorate, and the Confederate Remnant (especially the
Nova and
Epsilon Squadrons) are all under-used in most campaigns. Give them a shot at fame, and perhaps some teeth of their own.

Turn it into Marathon. Total win.

Actually, I haven't decided on a story. I'm working on original ideas right now, but thanks, that sounds good. And Cosmic_Nusiance, Marathon is a shooter. Not really feasible with a RTS engine. Kindly refrain from such comments in the future.

Technically, so is Halo.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halo_warsAlso, I was joking. It would be cool, though. Real cool.

Yes, but the main Halo franchise is a shooter. The main Starcraft franchise is a RTS, with the unreleased exception of Starcraft: Ghost. Can we get back on topic, please?

.... but that doesn't have anything to do with the gameplay compatibility.
maybe.... Escape Velocity, the RTS?

Or something about the founding of Starcraft's main government. I forgot what it's called, I haven't played in a while. The.... Confederation?

Guys, guys, you seem to be missing the point. I want ideas for mechanics. You know, like the new warp in thing for the protoss in SCII? Things I could do with triggers. I don't want to have to modify the core game files to add new units or something like that.

Add ninjas.

Starcraft already has ninjas. They're just called Dark Templar.

Dark templar are good. I might incorporate them into the Terran campaign somehow, but guys, be serious.

Hmmm... can't think of any super cool ideas but it would be nice if you put in one or two optional quests every few levels that would give you additional units or resources in the next mission. Anyway hope that helps

That would be good. I want to try for a less linear storyline, anyway.

Why not make it to where when you click on a part of the map, the units don't go the long way.

... What? If you mean re-write the AI, that is way beyond me.

You can greatly increase the power of infantry units like Marines, and make Siege Tanks harmless.

Nov 18 2007, 03:47 PM
Um, why? In one of my other maps, I made it so that Siege Tanks could kill Marines in one hit. It's more realistic.

Definitely. I mean, if the Marines even survived the attack, they would be thrown back, not just standing in the same position.
Back on topic... I like the idea of factions, where different factions can give you different units / credits. A really funny idea would be some sort of game in the middle of all this where if you kill x marines, you can play the game. Something like AI Cats vs Mice or "dodge the observer" or something that one person can play

So, maybe if you are on one faction, you can build "Dark Templar", except that they are renamed? Interesting thought. I'll make a mission and you guys could try it out. Do you know any free file hosting websites?

www.(this).com:
Tripod (lots of people hate it because it doesn't have some features)
Bravenet (annoying emails and spam, takes decades to set up correctly)
I also heard Google has something if you have a gmail account.

Savefile. Each file can be up to 50 megs on a free account. Only issue is if nobody downloads it after so long (like 2 weeks), they'll take it down.
