I'm looking to copy a small section of audio, create a new empty audio file, and paste it there.

I tried doing this, but the Copy option is grayed out. Any ideas?

I presume that you are talking about WireTap Studio...

There isn't any Copy and Paste support in the WireTap Studio. This is because WireTap Studio is a lossless editor and supporting copy and paste in a lossless manor is pretty hard to do both technically and also in the GUI in a clear way that fits in to the lossless editing paradigm that we're using. This is not to say that the feature won't show up in a future release.

If you are simply trying to isolate a section of that audio try this:
1. Select the area you wish to isolate.
2. Select File->Save Selection As...

This will create a new track in your library that contains just the selected audio.

Yes, I was talking about the great WireTap Studio.

I appreciate the work around.

FYI: There is a "Copy" and "Paste" selection (always dimmed gray) -- perhaps you should remove that. And maybe you can add the workaround you mention above and perhaps call it "Clone".

Keep up the great work!

Okay, I'm having a few minor issues with "cloning" (selecting a range of audio and saving as...)

1) It's not copying the endpoint
For example, let's say I've got a 45-minute audio interview, and I select the beginning at the 5-minute mark and the end at the 25 minute mark... WireTap Studio is copying from the 5-minute mark 'til the end (instead of 'til the 25-minute mark).

2) The countdown isn't accurate
Just after it shows 00 seconds, it starts counting down again -- does this a few times.

Any quick fixes on the first one?

I found another interesting bug...

... When I rename an audio, WireTap Pro will NOT allow me to use a colon (smile.gif.

Any thoughts?

I surprised... no replies to these bugs?

Hello,
The ":" is unable to be used as it is reserved by the OS. Hope this helps smile.gif

Can you please verify what version of WireTap Studio you're running? We haven't been able to replicate this here. Are you able to to replicate this problem?

It almost sounds like you still have a previous version of WireTap Studio, or parts of it, installed. Try running the WireTap Studio uninstaller from the WireTap Studio menu. Then download the current version and install it. please keep us posted.

What about this above?

And back to copying and pasting...

... I have an hour long interview, and I'd like to add a 2-minute blurb in the middle of the interview... it sounds like this isn't possible with WireTap Studio... is this true?

I requested some more information from you as well as uninstalling and reinstalling WireTap Studio. We would also appreciate getting the specs on your Mac, including the speed, amount of memory and OS you are using.

Yes, this is true. You can not paste into the file.

Okay, I didn't see the reply... thanks for that...

... Here are the specs:

WireTap Studio version 1.0.1

Speed: 1.25 GHz (minimac)
Memory: 1 GB
OS: 10.4.10

I'm concerned about uninstalling the program because I don't want to lose my recordings... is this something to worry about?

Finally, I'm quite surprised that you don't have the ability to insert additional audio. That's actually kind of shocking to me (now I'm going to have to take the extra step and do the copying and pasting with PEAK). Do you expect to add this in the future?

With that said, I did purchase the upgrade yesterday. Great piece of software.

Hello,
You can safely run the uninstaller. It will not remove the WireTap Studio Library which is in your Documents folder by default.

I have to defer to Dominic's earlier post about the copying and pasting as I can't say it any better.

Please let us know how things go for you after the uninstall/reinstall. Best of luck to you smile.gif

Why was my post deleted about being able to insert audio?

As far as I can tell, all of your posts are still here.

I'll try it again (and I'll copy it in my notes in case it goes missing).

I did read Dominic's earlier post about a work around... it not exactly what I'm looking for.

I'm surprised that inserting audio is impossible with such an awesome program like WireTap Studio... it's reminds me of going to Disney World and being forced to walk our way to the Magic Kingdom (when instead we could just hop on the Monorail).

Now, I'm going to have to open up another program (PEAK) and insert the audio... then import it back into WireTap Studio. I'm quite surprised by this missing benefit.
