Full Version: Problems with my Wii

Warlord Mike
Hi, guys.

Well, my problem is that it seems like every time I turn the thing on, my wireless network isn't picked up (or there's a connection failure). Any ideas on how I can keep this problem from happening?

Thanks for the help.

Quick, somebody go call Riddlemaster, he'll know what to do.

Is your wireless network not broadcasting?
Does it have any protection on it?
These two things might be causing a prolem.

Do you normally have a stable signal from the location where your Wii is? That's my biggest issue on campus. dry.gif

It's just a straight shot from my wireless router to the Wii, which is about 15 feet away on the floor. The router's on my table, which is roughly 4 feet off the ground; 5 feet if you count to the top of the antenna.

What kind of router is it? Airport can be a bit harder to set up than normal routers.

I don't know, but if it helps, it's an Actiontec MI424WR router.

I'm assuming you've tried shutting everything down and starting it up again right?

Do you mean the Console or the Router? Regardless, I haven't tried either.

As unlikely as it is it's worth a shot on both. My router works fine 90% of the time, but occasionally i have to disable it and reenable it for it to work. Don't know why. Might be your problem.

Try updating the firmware on the router and make sure your Wii is up to date when you can actually get it to connect. Probably won't fix the problem, but it's worth a try.

Verizon gave me an Actiontec MI424WR router with FiOS and I've had nothing but trouble with it. My most common problem is that the WLAN (WiFi) seems to crash inexplicably and the only way to resolve the issue is to reboot the router.

And I guess that means I have to turn it off and on, correct? We got ours from Verizon as well. Darn thing doesn't let me host B.Net games, and I'm finding myself unable to port-forward it so it allows b.net hosting.

Heh, yeah, just what I thought of.

If there is an options page (usually located at the IP of the router) it might be worth a shot to take a look at that. I wouldn't suggest just randomly changing things, but occasionally the solution becomes quite obvious if you just know where to look. Also, no port forwarding=major suck. sad.gif

How do I get to the IP? Or rather, WHERE is the IP? Sorry for sounding so ignorant, I really have no idea how a router works (other than you plug cables in it or use the wireless tower for the internet).

192.168.0.1 seems to be a common address for routers, maybe try putting that into your browser (or just click my link) and see if it brings up your router's control panel. You might need to use a certain browser to get it to work right.

Are there any possible sources of interference? A wireless keyboard or mouse? Cordless phone? Other wi-fi networks? Unfortunately everything seems to use the same 2.4 GHz frequency these days, and I am reminded of it every time the phone rings at my parents' house and I lose my airport.

Slightly off topic, but do you use interference robustness? I used to have the same problem at home, but I just leave that setting on and I can keep on using my internet when the phone rings.
