Battle.net ID: PiSketch
Battle.net Gateway: USEast
Timezone: UTC-4
Preference of playing time: 7:00ish-9:00ish on weekends
Skill level: 2
Email: pisketch-(at)-gmail.com
Hosting: I can host, but i've caused lag in the past
What maps to use: Whatever, really.
Rushes: Don't like em, but whatever
Speed: Fastest
Type of game: Anything, PvP, PvAi, and UMS, etc. I haven't yet seen a game type i won't play.
adam_0
Welcome aboard. PiSketch. I am sure we shall have some fateful battles. You in for anything this week?

EDIT: Congratulations on being our 11th member and 101st post!
PiSketch
I shoulda waited ten posts tongue.gif

I should be available on Sunday, but i prolly won't be hanging around b.net... Well, actually, i might be playing with Doggie, so yeah, i might be on.
adam_0
Anybody for this Sunday afternoon? I hope this is an early enough invitation...
Dogbert
I can play a game tonight if anyone is interested. Also sunday should work (assuming you meant noon your time, which is i think 3 here).

EDIT: Pi and i are gonnaplay a couple games tonight, so if anyone sees this in time we'll probably be on b.net
Dogbert
anyone up for some games this weekend?
adam_0
Sure. I'll try and remember to get on tomorrow... I'll probably be on int the 2-6 range here, which is 5-9 there...
Dogbert
Pi and I are gonna play a game in a few minutes so if anyone else wants to play, send us a message on battle.net
adam_0
Ok, so I want to plan something big where we can all get together and have a StarCraft-Fest. Before I do this, I want to know how much you guys like this idea. Nothing so uber-complex as the RRL, but perhaps a few 4v4 games with differing teams. So, what do you guys say? Sound good, not-so-good, or bad? I'll PM all of you, so reply here with your answers / comments / suggestions / criticisms.
Dogbert
Sonds good to me. Although a big problem would be getting a time that everyone can play. Unless we're going to do 1v1 and 2v2 matches, as a 4v4 match may be hard to set up. Although if we can get a tournament set up, sounds like it would be lots of fun.
adam_0
I'm not really set on any format yet - we might do a bracket set up with 1v1s, each pair of people figuring out when they can play the other.

We have 11 members currently, and with the possibility of Bomb and prophile joining (they had mentioned interest earlier), we could have 13. That's enough for a decent bracket.
Dogbert
If anyone wants to play a game i'll be on battle.net off and on this evening.

I will play. Only problem is I have very limited availability. Unless it'll be somewhat flexible, it would probably be better to leave me out.

_bomb

adam_0
I also have limited availability. This will most likely be played over a weekend a few weeks from now, or if no suitable situations arise, over summer vacation.

Bomb, if you could please detail your information in a post, according to the first post, as the others have done.
MadFax7
I'd be up for a tournament. Best time for me would be after 6 PM EST or weekends, but most days I'll be available anyways.

I like the teams idea. I iz not gud at FFA/1v1. D:
prophile
Arrrrrr, put me down for it.
adam_0
Ok, great. Nice to have you on board, prophile. Now for both you and Bomb, I'm gonna need this information (as detailed in the first post) so that I can coordinate this:

Here's what I need to know from you guys:
Battle.net ID (this is a given)
Timezones (i.e. Pacific Standard Time = - 8 hours)
Preference of playing time
Skill level (be honest) 1 = Noob, 2 = Decent, 3 = Brave-enough-to-play-on-battle.net, 4 = Semi-pro, 5 = Professional
If you can host a game

Also, we're going to have to talk about how we're going to play (i.e. what maps to use) etc:
Big Game Hunters
Lost Temple
Fastest Possible Maps
Zero Clutter Maps
Standard Maps
Custom (just for fun, such as Cannon Defense or Cats vs Mice)

Rushes: Do we want to allow rushes? It seemed to be kind of an issue on the other topic. It should either be all or nothing, or maybe decided on a game-by-game basis.
Speed of map: What speed should we play these games on?
Type of game: Duels, top vs bottom, free for all, comp stomp?

bluemanrocks
Battle.net ID bluemanrocks
Timezones EST(eastern standard time)
Preference of playing time weekdays after 3:30, weekends after 2:30
Skill level (be honest) 2-ish
If you can host a game Yes indeed

For maps, I'm thinking LT+standard maps is the only way to be fair. Rushes yes, speed fastest, and type either 1v1 or 2v2. I was thinking more of 2v2s first as kind of like qualifiers, then the winners get split up and from then on its 1v1.
adam_0
Bluemanrocks: I already have the info for you, I just need it for prophile and Bomb.

...but thanks for the support!
Bomb
Here's what I need to know from you guys:
Battle.net ID Bomb_omb
Timezone: EST
Preference of playing time: Anytime after 8 EST
Skill level (be honest) 4
If you can host a game Yes

I'll play any type. 1v1s usually make the best tourney fodder. If you get killed by a rush then you deserve to lose. Banning any sort of gameplay short of cheating really weakens the game, in my mind. I'm all for any Blizzard/Ladder Maps. ZC just doesn't have the same feel to it. They are good fun though. Evolves is an addictively dumb map settings game.

Basically anything works for fun games, i'd recommend blizz only for tournament play.

So far, I have Dogbert(ratbert), Bomb(Bomb_omb) MadFax7, bluemanrocks, myself(Holierthan_thou), and maybe Prophile(?)

I'll PM Prophile again to see if he can give us some information, and we'll close signups in 2 days.
prophile
BNet: prophile @ Europe, MtSutherland @ US East
TZ: GMT
Preferred time: anywhere between 6PM and 10PM Mon-Fri, 4PM and 10PM Sat/Sun
Skill level: 2
Can host: arrrr
adam_0
* Added prophile's info to first post
* Working on adding this tournament to my website
* Waiting for more people to sign up

If you guys know of anybody who would be interested in playing, invite them over! Right now we have enough for one 3v3. Which would mean a small tourney.
adam_0
A little later than two days, whoops!

Well at least we have an even number of people. I was thinking that we could do some 2v2s and deem the person with the most wins the big winner. Should there be a tie, we can do a 1v1 to decide it. Sound good to everybody? What 4 player maps should we play on?
adam_0
I need some input from you guys on these things:

1. Does my idea sound good to you guys?
2. Who should the teams be?
3. How many rounds should we play?
4. Which maps should we play on (specifically), or should they be chosen randomly from a list of four player maps?
5. How do we determine which games are StarCraft / Brood War, considering some people like one vastly over the other?

1/2: Sounds alright to me. I would say that each player should play every other player however doing a game with every single combination of teams would require a ridiculous number of rounds. Whatever the case, everyone should play the same number of games and no two players should be teamed together more than any other two players.

3: I think it'd be better to err on the side of shorter and more manageable than longer and more fair — keep it single digits.

4: Random map. If we use any micro or fastest maps in addition to the official Blizzard maps, everyone should play one game on each type of map (one game on a Blizzard map, one game on a micro map, one game on a four player map, one game on a six player map, etc). I'll add my choices for maps later, once I've had a chance to consider a few.
adam_0
Thank you, MadFax7, for your quick response. You pretty much said what I was thinking, but in a more advanced way. If everybody agrees with this or doesn't post soon (I'll give it a couple days), then we can proceed to planning out who plays who... and I have a great idea about how to figure it out.

As for maps, I don't have a great collection, so if you have any maps that you really want to play on, post them here and I'll take a look at them.

Another thing I just thought of (and if you could please edit this in, MadFax7): how are we going to determine whether we play Brood War or StarCraft? I know some people can't stand one, and others can't stand the other. Here are the standings of people who are playing in this tournament:

Me: Don't care, prefer StarCraft though.
Dogbert(ratbert): BroodWar, but StarCraft is fine.
MadFax7: Unknown (it looks like I need something else from you, MadFax7)
prophile(MtSutherland): Unknown
bluemanrocks: Unknown
Bomb(Bomb_omb): Unknown

Wow, I didn't know we had that much unknown information about you guys. Check the first post to see if you're missing anything, and if so, tell me so I can add it in.

1. yes
2. dunno. Guess well have to mix n match skill ratings to get even teams
3. Enough so everyone gets in 3 or 4 games
4. any map with even resources is fine with me. specific maps, i suggest lost temple.
5. cast a vote is what im thinking. i vote regular starcraft

btw: anyone up for some games tonight?
adam_0
Unfortunately, I won't be able to play any games tonight. Thanks for the info, Dogbert!

1. sounds good to me, although maybe the 1v1 at the end might be unfair, cause 2v2 is often more about teamwork than sheer skill, so there could be a tie between 2 players and the better 2v2 player could end up losing because he has to play whoever he ties with 1v1. dunno, maybe thats what you meant to happen =P.

2/3. hmmm, i was thinking everyone should get to play everyone else, and with everyone else. actually thatd be like 90 games total, with 6 people, which is like 15 per person. i mean, id be up for it if it could get scheduled and run well, but that seems like itd be a lot of work. maybe we could play a couple of prelim games and see who were most comfortable with as 2v2 partners, or maybe some 1v1s and place the best with the worst, 2nd with 2nd, and 3rd with 3rd. for me personally any length tourney would be fine, but for the group as a whole, short would probably be better than long.

4. lt, python, hwangsanbul, seongangil, vampire, luna, iron curtain, chariots of fire, etc. (basically standard non-money maps). if we end up doing ums or fastest, im gonna agree with madfax in that everyone should get to play at least one on each type.

5. gonna have to go with BW. i like it better personally, and from what i hear from the pro/expert scene (and blizz agrees) its more balanced. sooooooo.... yeah.

/LOL i didnt realize you were asking the other two people specifically for their info, i feel like a moron for reposting that.
adam_0
Thanks for the info, bluemanrocks.

(and your posting the information doesn't matter, at least you were paying attention to my posts wink.gif)

Now, we're waiting for info from prophile and Bomb.

1. It sounds fine except that if you go with 2v2, it'll be really hard to get all 4 players in one game at a time. Plus, the teams would have to rotate every game to really determine a winner, since your teammate could be winning just because of you. I say 1v1 only. Also, flexibility with scheduling is key here.
2. There should not be teams in a tournament.
3. Every player should play every other player, if possible. This will keep the competition relatively balanced. As in, the best will play the best, while the less skilled won't be outmatched in every game.
4. There should be a set list (no more than 5) 1v1 either ladder or blizzard maps used.
5. I can play in either. BW is preferred, simply because it's newer, but I wouldn't care if someone wanted to play the original. At the end of the day, skill matters over version.

Chamrin
I want to play.

Here's what I need to know from you guys:
BnetID = Chamrin
West coast
When I'm not sleeping (at night)
3.8 (but rusty)
can host.

And BW preferred.

Cham
adam_0
Ok Cham, we'll let you in this tournament. Maybe it will be easier to set it up with seven people, who knows...I still need information from prophile, and then we can get this show on the road.

Actually, we'll have to wait for school to get out first. School's out in three weeks (that's including this week) for me.

*Adds Chamrin's information to the first post.
adam_0
Ok, so I've set up a tentative tournament set up. I ranked us all from 1-7, based upon our "skill level" that we stated earlier (as for the bottom 3, I seeded you randomly - in future tournaments, I'll have a better idea about who's better than who). Then I teamed people up based on ranking - the numbers had to be within 1 or 2 numbers (say I paired the 1 and 4 together, then the other team would have to add up to around 5, say - 2 and 3). The second-seeded player, Chamrin, will play 8 games, with the rest of us playing 7. Have a look:

So, what do you think?
Chamrin
Can you post that in a format that doesn't require a microsoft product or a download to view?

I'll attempt to post an image of it, sure.

It's ok, your attachment looks better than mine.

You want to join in next round / post your info and play some informal games?
Sniper Kitty
Believe me, I would, but now that I'm out of school I'm stuck with *shivers* dial-up. I am working on getting that changed, but until then I'm one of the "undesirables" in the internet gaming world. Maybe next next next (x?) time though. wink.gif
adam_0
You can still post your information so that I know you're interested and I have it on hand. I send out PMs to everybody who I have information from, so if I have your info, I can keep you up-to-date on what's going on.
MadFax7
5. My vote goes to Brood War.

For timing, at the moment I am out of town, however pretty much any date should be fine as long as I can know a couple of weeks in advance and make provisions for being available. That said, I already know I will not be available the 12th and 14th of June, and most likely the 1st-4th of July. There will be a few other days in there that I won't be able to play as well.
adam_0
Oh yeah, that reminds me... I myself will be gone from July 1-16.

Another thing to note: The way I currently have this set up it won't work, but I'm thinking maybe I can rearrange who's first in the lineup (currently highest-ranked player is in the first column) to be who will host the game. I'll also take into consideration who can host or not.

Looks good. No pressure being the no. 1 seed. As for playing, my internet is down right now but should be up in a few days. If we're looking at the 2-3 week time frame, I'm on vaca from the 14th through the 21st with no internet access. (By choice!)

Anything after that should be cool.

Ok, that's fine. I got finished with the 2nd draft last night, here it is:Click to view attachment

Everybody hosts 2 games (excluding Dogbert, who stated that he could not host), except for myself and (again, "got the short straw") Bomb, who will host 3. The hosts are responsible for scheduling the games and either hosting them themselves or getting somebody else to host for them. It will be very helpful if you post when you will be available for the hosts.

Here's an image for all you non-Microsoft people (wouldn't fit in previous post):

If everybody's OK with this setup, then hosts: feel free to start the games. I would suggest PMing everybody from your first race, seeing what times / days work for them, and then synchronizing them for a specific time and day. Note the time zones in the first post.

Let's get this show on the road!
prophile
K.
adam_0
Since nobody has responded, let the games begin! I'll be PMing you all with your hosting responsibilities shortly. If you can't fulfill these obligations, politely hand it off to the next-in-line (in your group). Any questions, PM me!
MadFax7
Alright, I'm supposed to host the following games:

Match 1: MadFax7 and Dogbert(ratbert) vs bluemanrocks and prophile
Match 2: MadFax7 and bluemanrocks vs Rebelious(Holierthan_thou) and prophile

I'm thinking sometime between the 23rd and 30th for one (or both) of these matches. I should be available to host any day at any time that week except Friday morning and evening (EST). Post here so we can try and get a game going.

MadFax7: 23rd-30th, any time
Dogbert: ???
bluemanrocks: ???
prophile: ???
rebelious: ???

Also, a word of warning to those of you on (certain?) Intel Macs: 10.5.3 breaks StarCraft.

One last thought: did we ever decide if we're playing regular StarCraft or Brood War?
