Full Version: Crashing SnapZ Pro X on Panther

Hi all,
I'm using SnapZ Pro X 2.1.1 on Mac OSX 10.3.9 (Panther) and am getting crashes upon trying to get SnapZ Pro X to capture some video from the web using Firefox (2.0.0.11). I've been able to get SnapZ Pro X to capture video a couple of times before, but I'm having problems now.

Here are the steps I'm doing:

1) Bring up Firefox, and point to the webpage containing the video in question.

2) Play the video to get it in cache. My connection is on the slow side of DSL and sometimes the video pauses in mid-play. When I get the whole video played once, (I think) it's in the browser's web cache and hence the next time I play it, it seems to never pause.

3) Bring up SnapZ Pro X from the Dock (I don't have it in StartupItems).

4) Press Shift-Command-3, then press 4 to get the SnapZ Pro X Movie window up.

5) I then re-size the selection window to enclose the area on the Firefox window where the video is paused at the beginning.

6) Press Return after re-sizing the selection window. Press Return again to select the default SnapZ Pro X filename to save to.

At this point SnapZ Pro X crashes in thread #0 with the following :

Command: Snapz Pro X
Path: /Applications/Snapz Pro X/Snapz Pro X.app/Contents/MacOS/Snapz Pro X
Version: 2.1.1 (2.1.1)
PID: 1025
Thread: 0

Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)
Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS (0x0001) at 0x42ffc17c

Thread 0 Crashed:

When it worked before, after I did step #7 above, I would start the video and it was captured fine.

What am I doing wrong here? If I try playing the video while I get SnapZ Pro X setup, I miss capturing the beginning of the video.

Any ideas, or tips, on how to get SnapZ Pro to capture web-based video would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Ed

Hey Mansky,
Sorry you are having problems, and thanks for the report. Please try the following:

1. Invoke Snapz and press command-Q to quit Snapz. If you can not invoke Snapz, open the Activity Monitor found in your Utilities folder. Look for a process named "Snapz Pro X", select it, and then select "Quit Process".
2. Remove the Snapz preference file "com.ambrosiasw.snapz.plist", which is located in the Home/Library/Preferences folder
3. Download the latest version of Snapz from the first link at http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/snapzprox/addons.html
4. Install Snapz. It should install over the old version, and you should not need to enter your registration info again.

This will get you the current version of Snapz (2.1.2) and get you back to the default settings. See how this works for you. If you still have problems, please mail me at help@ambrosiasw.com so I can get some more info from you. Thanks smile.gif

Hi Evan,
I finally got SnapZ Pro X to work fine on Panther. Had to first un-install 2.1.1, then re-install a clean copy of 2.1.2.

After that, everything worked out fine.

Apparently, installing 2.1.2 over 2.1.1 right after purchasing, and hence updating, the license file screwed up the app.

Excellent app!

Ed

ps. Please add more functionality to your Applescript dictionary for SnapZ Pro X so we coders can better integrate SnapZ Pro into a script. smile.gif

Hey mansky,
Happy to hear you're up and running again! We will be adding a lot more to the Applescript dictionary in the next version in development now. Best of luck to you smile.gif
