Some clips which are split from a larger file are empty and only blank, dead space.

However clips "split" from a larger file don't have their "duration" time in the right column.

We could easily know which ones to throw away if we could see the duration.

Is there a way to refresh and get WireTap to register the time duration of each clip?

The duration may not be updated until the file is actually opened. We are working on improving this.
