Yorick
Any thoughts on Eschalon? Anyone who's played the full game? I've just been messing around a bit with the demo, but so far it seems like a solid old school style RPG, which we haven't had many of recently (almost non, sans Avernum).

Yorick, your name sounds really familiar. I can't remember what's it's from though. The spellings a little different, but I've definately heard that name before. If only I could remember what it was from.

EDIT: Oh yeah, Golden Compass. Odd I remembered right after I posted. I must have short term memory loss or something.
SoItBegins
Yeah. I've got it in the tank for after Darwinia.

Yorick is a character in Hamlet.
Ragashingo
I got Eschalon. It's fun and certainly feels far newer than any of the other RPGs like Spiderweb's.

Hamlet, you uncultured schmuck.
(And I don't care that it's already been pointed out. It deserves to be said twice.)

Huh, oh that too. I don't have much experience with Hamlet except for the simplified version I had to read for school. I don't remember that name. It still reminds me of Golden Compass.
Shenlon
Alas, poor Yorick. I knew him well...

Awesome quote from Hamlet.

Oh, and Eschalon.. well, I haven't tried it out..yet. Seems like to umpteenth exile-clone from Spidersoft, though.

Well, back on topic, and much too late, I've gone through a little bit of the demo. it seems pretty good, although a few little issues with interacting with objects that seem annoying (walking up to the barrel, then looking into it, rather than just clicking once. but that's pretty minor)

Looks like I'll try to grab it once I can spend some dough on games.

What gets me is the processor speed requirements. The graphics obviously aren't state of the art, yet they require 1.6 gigahertz. Hence, even with minimal graphic settings, the town in the demo slows me down to a crawl. Yet I can run a 12-player race on Redline with little, if any, noticeable drop in FPS.
Ragashingo
What is your computer? I run it mostly ok on my 1.2Ghz iBook.

I've heard that it's an issue for some Macs. It's really too bad, because the game itself seems solid. But then again, Basilisk did release the game on Windows and Linux, as well as OSX, so they probably didn't have the time to optimize the engine for we Mac folks. According to Basilisk, they're going to do more optimizations for the Eschalon II.

1.33 Ghz iBook. Normally I'm fine, but torches are basically lag sticks.
Ragashingo
Yeah, lighting is what seems to kill it the most. Thats why I go around as steal all the torches I can... Also it down to thousands of colors. That seemed to help a bit.
