I got a PS3 last Tuesday. It's the culmination of literally months of consideration, research, and contemplation, and so far I'm quite happy with it. The graphics are pretty crazy, even on my SD television. I found setting it up to be very straightforward, and I really love the ability to download demos of games onto my console. Currently I'm blazing a trail through R:FoM, but I'm keeping an eye out for new game releases.
Here is a site with a list of upcoming games. Not completely current, but still. Also, there's Fallout 3 and Borderlands, and those should be winners as well. So far it's 500 well spent dollars.
Also, is there a way to make my Sixaxis controllers work with PS2 games? I don't think there is, but I'm holding out hope.
Wow. After trying the demos of Uncharted and Armored Core 4, my only question is
how can games be this cool?!?

Haha, you had me going for a minute there. That's some damn fine satire.

What exactly is so revolutionary about the sixaxis controllers over the Dualshock 2's that they can justify a $50 pricetag?

Motion along the X and Y axis? Though the Wiimote has that plus the Z axis, accelerometer and pointer functions and costs only $40.

I really want to get a Wii just because of its abstractness and altogether coolness.

I got a PS3 for Christmas, love it! What games do you have? Uncharted is amazing, I just beat it.
If you want you can add me as a friend, my PSN is BurntOrange32.

The Xbox 360 has more and better games (IMO) but it's your money, and assuming Blu-ray wins you'll be set for HD video when the time comes.

I would be hopelessly addicted to my computer if you could hook up Wiimotes to it.

I only have Resistance: Fall of Man right now, but I think Uncharted and Armored Core 4 are going to be my next purchases. Uncharted does look pretty amazing.

Cool new games are coming, though of course you're right about xbox 360 having the majority of games right now.

With umm.... what's it called app you can use the wii mote as a mouse. It's one of those apps to control more Mac features w/ the apple remote (and more).

But... you can calibrate all the other features, right?

So...Shlimazel and Spyker, you guys are the first two people I've heard about who don't think the PS3 is a piece of crap. So tell me if a few things I've heard are true:
1: graphics aren't really too good.
2: It can overheat.

Jan 12 2008, 04:51 PM
1: This is fiction. I'm not even playing on a HDTV and the only games for a computer that has equal graphics would be Oblivion, Quake 4 and Doom 3. These are awesome graphics.
2: I haven't run into this yet. I don't know. Although I think the Xbox 360 was supposed to have worse problems with overheating.

I knew the Xbox 360 overheated and got the red ring of death, which made me think less of it, but even the Gamecube does not overheat. I left it on for 3 or 4 days once, leaving the characters on Smash Bros Melee tearing each other apart, then waking up and playing, then leaving them battling whenever I went to do something else. This continued the whole time, so it was always controlling AIs.

1: graphics aren't really too good. I'm running in 1080i and it looks amazing! Cross-gen games look similar but exclusives like Uncharted are great!!
2: It can overheat. Mine gets a bit warm, but it's also crammed in a TV case. Some PS3s have problems but not many.
There ya go. Anything else?

I never said- oh, wait...oh okay. You're answering me within the quote. Okay. Well then I don't know why a gamestop I went to advertised the PS2 more than the PS3. Hmm...maybe because so many people think they suck?

The question is, are the graphics $100+ worth of great, which personally, i think they aren't. Also the biggest problem with the PS3 right now is a huge lack of games, especially major titles. Everything is still in development and everything that comes out isn't doing all that well or can be gotten on the much cheaper 360.

They can advertise the PS2 a lot because for one: a lot of people have one already, and two: the PS2 is still selling a lot of units on its own. Any business will go where the money is, end of story.

There's no denying that PS3 games look good, but Quake 4 and Oblivion are both around 2.5 years old, and Doom 3 3.5 years old. There are plenty of PC games that look way better. Haven't you seen Crysis and COD 4?

? Don't you need an HDTV for awesome graphics? I thought that was the point... and I've played Aperion X on a TV that wasn't HD and it looked horrible. I don't see how you can get excellent graphics on a regular TV.

Compare something like the old Goldeneye with something like the more modern Halo 2 or Half-life. The ability of a console to fully utilize a SDTV's resolution can make a huge difference in quality. Sure, HD can go even beyond that, but we're just now starting to realize the limits of SD, let alone the full potential of HD.

That's another reason why I like PC gaming. SD is the same as 640x480 res. PCs have been able to go beyond that for many years. Another big difference is that consoles basically don't ever have AA. Even on HD screens, 2x AA would make games look so much better.

Trust me. They are awesome. I had exactly that same concern, but it turned out to be unfounded. It's awesome. Look especially at Uncharted. It's like playing a movie.

They're considerably better looking then essentially every PS3 game currently available, and also better looking than most of the future PS3 games of this year. Call of Duty 4 is out for the PS3, though.

Really? The combination of lack of a HUD and the game's overall graphical quality is specifically what made it feel like a movie to me.
