Full Version: Console Errors for SnapZPro
Ambrosia Software Web Board > Ambrosia Web Boards > Utility Central
HeyBo
MacBookPro w/10.5.1 was using Time Machine on a WesternDigital HD and kept freezing up the MBPro, so I stopped using the WD and went to LaCie w/no problems.

Console started showing some errors, and got rid of some damaged files (mostly Windows).

SnapZPro had the following Console errors, and so I uninstalled SZP with the SZP Uninstaller, but the errors recurred in the Console on the next reboot:

1/14/08 9:26:38 AM [0x0-0x13013].com.ambrosiasw.snapz[197] Mon Jan 14 09:26:38 BoMBP15.local Snapz Pro X[197] <Error>: The function `CGSCreateCString' is obsolete and will be removed in an upcoming update. Unfortunately, this application, or a library it uses, is using this obsolete function, and is thereby contributing to an overall degradation of system performance. Please use `CFStringCreateWithCString' instead.

1/14/08 9:26:38 AM [0x0-0x13013].com.ambrosiasw.snapz[197] Mon Jan 14 09:26:38 BoMBP15.local Snapz Pro X[197] <Error>: The function `CGSCreateBoolean' is obsolete and will be removed in an upcoming update. Unfortunately, this application, or a library it uses, is using this obsolete function, and is thereby contributing to an overall degradation of system performance. Please use `kCFBooleanTrue or kCFBooleanFalse' instead.

1/14/08 9:26:38 AM [0x0-0x13013].com.ambrosiasw.snapz[197] Mon Jan 14 09:26:38 BoMBP15.local Snapz Pro X[197] <Error>: The function `CGSReleaseObj' is obsolete and will be removed in an upcoming update. Unfortunately, this application, or a library it uses, is using this obsolete function, and is thereby contributing to an overall degradation of system performance. Please use `CFRelease' instead.

1. Are these errors something which are significant?
2. Will a reinstall of Snap Z Pro get rid of the errors?
3. Since I uninstalled & I can't get rid of the errors, should I reinstall & continue to use SnapZPro anyway?

Thanks

Captain Bob
In the short term, you might try searching your hard drive(s) for "com.ambrosia.snapz" and removing those files that the uninstaller didn't catch. In the long term, it sounds like Ambrosia will need to release an update for Snapz which replaces those three deprecated functions, assuming your copy of Snapz is already up-to-date.

Can you please verify what version of Snapz you're using? The current uninstaller should remove most everything, but as Captain Bob pointed out, it will not remove the "com.ambrosiasw.snapz.plist" preference file in your Home/Library/Preferences folder. Try this:

1. Invoke Snapz and press command-Q to quit Snapz. If you can not invoke Snapz, open the Activity Monitor found in your Utilities folder. Look for a process named "Snapz Pro X", select it, and then select "Quit Process".
2. Remove the Snapz preference file "com.ambrosiasw.snapz.plist", which is located in the Home/Library/Preferences folder
3. Download the latest version of Snapz from <http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/dl/snapzprox>
4. Install Snapz. It should install over the old version, and you should not need to enter your registration info again.
