I just noticed this when checking out the new Speed Download 5, though I went back and found the image has been there since v4. As you can see the cables have just been cut and pasted in there (rather poorly too - you can still see an extraneous cable on the right).

Wow. That's both hilarious and sad.

So...do we get mad, or let this topic descend to the bottom of the page?

As it is an artwork, let it sink.
JacaByte
It's a stolen artwork; I believe that's the whole point.

I say we cry. There's one thing worse than a criminal in this world; a bad criminal. The work that was done to patch up the artwork for Speed Download was very, very sloppy, and you can tell where the wire came from without having to do any kind of side-by-side comparison.

Maybe they are expressing their love of Ambrosia by using their graphics.
Or maybe someone from Ambrosia is a double agent!

Personally, I think that they somehow came to believe that ASW is a small thing and very few people, if anyone, would notice.

i vote we BnB their boards and prove them wrong
SoItBegins
Seconded. We shall fall on them like a pack of rabid sheep!

Side note: If nothing else, use DownThemAll instead.
DataSpot
Parts of it don't even make sense, not in the way the ASW one does. Are the downloads going into Safari rather than coming out? No? Do my Growl notifications get downloaded and somehow put into a network share? I can even use their download manager to download that very same download manager and then put it onto my FTP account? I think they kind of missed the point that the ASW software made with the graphic. My suggestion; organize it better with a more original representation so as to more accurately portray the functionality of the features provided by the program.

Also, DownThemAll is already pretty sweet, I don't think I'd really need anything more.

I'm not particularly impressed with Yazsoft. Too bad they don't have any forums we can trash in retaliation. smile.gif

I sort of discovered that a while back and took the opportunity to show it to the artist Marcus as well as the powers that be. To let everyone know, Andrew has discussed the matter over with the people at YazSoft.

It is thought that their artists may have received inspiration from our design.... But, in the desire to stay on friendly terms with a fellow Mac company Andrew feels that it was a matter of two people thinking of the same idea and design. You are free to make opinions of your own, or to say whatever you wish, but this is how Andrew feels on the matter.

He feels that it is no big deal and we at Ambrosia Software wish Yazsoft the best of luck and great success with their product.
Sponge Tom
Well, I guess that makes sense. The hate against Mac generated by PC users is far more than anything Yazsoft could do to Ambrosia.

Professional courtesy, in a way? As much as it's difficult for ASW to really amaze me any more than they have already done (from your products to your customer service), y'all keep finding new ways to impress me. smile.gif
Ragashingo
Indeed.
Captain Bob
Reminds me of this and this versus this and this. Ambrosia has received inspiration, too wink.gif.

Edit: on second thought, I'd better be clear. The Speed Download graphic looks like it could be a manipulation of Ambrosia's original art. The Ferazel's Wand graphics you might consider a cheap rip-off or a loving tribute, but they were clearly created from scratch at least.

Nice save.

Andrew is surprisingly mature. I thought he'd at least throw durians at them : /

I'm convinced they copied it. I don't really trust Yazsoft after this Macheist problem :\.

MacHeist problem? What problem is that? Mine worked just fine after MacHeist.
Guy
The MacHeist problem relates to upgrading from SD4 to SD5. From what I understand, the program more or less automatically updated itself to version 5 and then demanded that the users re-register. Yazsoft's upgrade policy included a one month window for free upgrading to version 5. MacHeist was within this window but Yazsoft denied free upgrading to all MacHeist users, saying that the MacHeist licenses were not equivalent to normal licenses, despite wording on the MacHeist site which indicated otherwise.
(note this is only from what I've heard - I don't have Speed Download myself)
spyker
Odd... the way to fix this MH problem was that they will give Macheist purchasers SD6. But not 5.. um.
