I am attempting to use Windows applications on my Mac using an open source set of files and applications called Wine. Sadly, all attempts to run the software have been met with failure. I have attempted to find the problem myself by searching the Internet for help files and the like, but all the information I keep turning up is 2 or more years old. Is there anyone here who is actively using Wine on their Intel Mac who can:

1. Provide either a current copy of Wine or simple instructions to compile it from source code.
2. Tell me how to use it correctly.
3. Maybe teach me some UNIX along the way.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is a version of wine designed specifically to be used under osx called darwine. You can download it here:

http://darwine.sourceforge.net/download.php

I don't remember how to use it, but i remember that I got it working withought a fuss.

Unfortunately, that page does not include an x86 build. It looks like it does, but in fact clicking on the link reloads the page. A link farther down, however, brings you to an alternate site to get the very same thing. I'll try it and come back for help as necessary.

Thank you. It works, sort of. It doesn't run the software I wanted it to, something about not having libGL on my machine, but I kind of expected that to happen.

No Half Life Uplink. What else could I try to play?

If you wanna play Half-Life you could try CrossOver Mac because that's one of the programs they're specifically targeting.
Of course, it's not free.

Second that. CrossOver is the best thing ever.

...if you aren't using a mac with an Intel GMA950. There are issues with DIrectX capability.
