ROCHESTER, New York -- February 20, 2008 -- Shawn King of YourMacLife.com radio show, the longest running show dealing with the Mac, has recently been contacted by an unidentified group reportedly holding a 2007 Macworld Editors Choice Award for ransom. For those that need clarification, ransom is the practice of holding a prisoner to extort money or property to secure their release.

The trophy had been awarded to the creators of DiskWarrior 4, Alsoft at the recent Macworld San Fransciso. Reports are scattered, but unsure how the trophy had been taken into possession by the mysterious group. Alsoft has yet to comment on the news.

Ambrosia Software offers its support, as they also won a Macworld Eddy for their innovative audio software, WireTap Studio. We fear that our trophy might be hit next by these individuals, and hope that Alsoft decides to take the route offered by the extremists. Their demands, albeit weird, seem a small price to pay for the return of the trophy. We hope that the Eddy does not have to endure any more horrific trauma that it already has.

In a daring and selfless act, Shawn King has decided to act as intermediary for both parties if they so wish.

To see the ransom note which has the list of demands, the captures have set up the website:

For further news, please check in with Your Mac Life, as well as the Ambrosia Software Boards.

Our hearts and wishes go out to the trophy, and we hope for an uneventful return to the Alsoft Offices.

This post never existed! In fact, neither do I. I'm just a figment of the world's collective imagination. I am not a flying saucer! The aliens aren't trying to take over Yugoslavia! THE GREEN-GREY THINGS ARE YOUR FRIENDS AND ONLY WANT TO BORROW YOUR BRAIN!

Heh.
So much for "returned unharmed" if it's missing an ear though. wink.gif

I'd like to point out the web address of the main frame of the 'ransom note' website. It's http://www.ambrosiasw.com/~jchamplin/kidnappededdy/.

...and I think I know exactly who did it, too.

Is it April first or something? I didn't get the memo.

I posted it (see my 2nd post) then immediately edited it so I wouldn't mess up their joke.

I think the kidnappers should have something poop on the trophy.

I'm just saying...

Hey, I'm with TelstraClear too! Assuming his router is configured reasonably it shouldn't be a problem. Why would someone specifically want to attack his IP over some random one?

I know who did it!

The answer came quite naturally as I was shaving this morning. One demand did not seem right: they want tofu.
Now, who in their right mind would ask for tofu as a ransom demand?
Then it hit me.
Japanese terrorists who believe the West is corrupt and has influenced Japan long enough.
It was so blatantly true I called up my contacts in the air industry, and it so happens that a "John Edwards" (yes, another one) took a plane out of the U.S. to Japan hours after the theft!
Edwards? Eddy!
A proud thief always leaves clues.

And thus it was that the great detective solved another crisis.

Never mind.

I wonder if it's possible to get through the Airport which doesn't have any port forwarding enabled...

My first guess was the deviantly-minded, wickedly clever Hector, who, of course, uses Magnus to perform her dasterdly deeds.
