Full Version: EasyEnvelopes has slowed to a crawl

I've had the forgotten image problem for a while, so I got used to setting up the right image again, every time I rebooted. But for the past few weeks this has become impossible. EasyEnvelopes has slowed to crawl. It takes 30-40 seconds to pop down a menu on the setup pane. It takes 15-20 seconds for each letter that I try to delete in a selected address.

It's obvious that it's clashing with something (does that still happen in OSX) or that it's busy doing something silly or that it's throttled. I've tried deleting prefs, deleting the widget and reinstalling, but its still the same. It even infects the print dialogue that opens up when I finally click on the stamp, and becomes so unresponsive that it's almost unusable.

But here's the weird thing - as long as I go through with the setup, then the next time I fire up Dashboard EasyEnvelopes is slick and friendly - like nothing weird had happened.

Until I logout and back in again.

Anybody got any ideas or tips?

Finally cracked it with the aid of the Activity Monitor Utility. Firing up the dashboard showed that the Dashboard client and ATSServer were each using around 30% of the CPU. ATSServer is Apple's font management engine.

So I launched Fontbook, asked it to validate all fonts and it highlighted 'serious problems' with one font.

I deleted the problem font, emptied the font cache with Font Explorer X, restarted the Mac (I'm an old fashioned kinda guy) and Easy Envelopes is running as fast as you like. smile.gif
