Skill level: 4
Availability: 16:00 GMT - 03:00 GMT, any day

Preferred Gametype: Frantic close quarters. All modes are pretty much fine.

darth_vader
I haven't busted out the old PistolMatch 2000 for a while now, but I'd probably have a free hour sometime in the next week.
Shlimazel
That'd be cool. I am free on wednesdays and the weekend, so anytime on those days I'd be able to host or play.
Begemotike
If it's still up, I'm joining in! Launching now...

Shlimazel
Sorry! I'll launch it. I was getting tired of waiting. Just hang on a minute.

{edit} Ok, as of this second, the match is launched.
Begemotike
Checking back in!

Begemotike
Okay, that was awesome. Good game, man. The duel at the end was particularly cool, outside of you getting me in about three shots. wink.gif
Shlimazel
Good match, Begomotike! We'll need to play again sometime. And I agree about ASW teams. That'd be awesome.

Whoa, we posted at exactly the same time. Good game, is right!
darth_vader
I'm sorry I missed that. I'll be up for some Slayer around 4:30 Wednesday or so (that's 4:30 Central time.) What timezones are you guys in?
Begemotike
Alaska Timezone, we gets our own!

4:30 for you is 1:30 for me, I believe. It's an iffy proposition, but if I'm around and not in the middle of some work, I'll poke my head in at that time.
Two Jacks
I'm definitely game! Just post a schedule (Like abig bold one in your first post) of when you'll be on for sure. I'm free at nights for Mon-Wensday.
Shlimazel
Hi guys, just stopping in briefly...

Two Jacks, that's a good idea. Here's a form I worked out...

Name:
Skill level: (1= poor, 2=below average, 3=average, 4=fair, 5=good)
Availability: (earliest hour-latest hour) (earliest day-latest day)
Preferred Gametype: (Slayer, CTF, etc)
Can Host: (y/n)

Could you guys fill out this info? When I have the time I'll add it to my first post. My info is as follows;

Name: Shlimazel
Skill level: Average-Above Average
Availability: 4:00-7:00/8:00 EST, Wednesday and Weekend
Preferred Gametype: CTF, Team Slayer
Can Host: Yes

I'll be available approximately from 4:00 o'clock EST onwards today, if anyone wants to play later.
darth_vader
Name: innocent
Skill level: Average
Availability: 4:30-5:00 CST
Preferred Gametype: Slayer
Can Host: Yes

Edit: going to get on today at 4:30 CST (1hr 10 min from now). Will anyone else be on? Is there a confirmed host?
Shlimazel
Thanks for providing your info, I'll add that to my post. I'll be on. In fact, I'm willing to go on right now, if you tell me what your server name is. Or I could host (server name HaloASW).

[edit]

Yeah, I'll go ahead and start HaloASW. CTF, Bloodgulch. Anyone is welcome to join.
Begemotike
Huh, not seeing it.
darth_vader
Fun times guys. Let's keep doing this.
Shlimazel
Yeah. That whole long series of games was epic. Especially the bit where Begemotike had to leave and I went NOOO, HE BE TAKIN MY BEGE. That was pretty great.

{edit}

Also, Begemotike and DY4 (sp?), could I get you to fill out this sheet?

Name:
Skill level: (1= poor, 2=below average, 3=average, 4=fair, 5=good)
Availability: (earliest hour-latest hour) (earliest day-latest day)
Preferred Gametype: (Slayer, CTF, etc)
Can Host: (y/n)

And all new participants, really. Not just you two.
nfreader
#halo on irc.ambrosia.net
Shlimazel
Sorry, but I don't know what you are referring to, nfreader.
nfreader
We (being mostly Dy4, Ithin and myself) operate an IRC channel, #halo on Ambrosia's IRC server. In the past, we used it to find, join and bitch about Halo servers. It's been fairly quiet recently so some new faces could really liven the place up.
DY4
I'm in the process of setting up a dedicated server that I can run part time if anyone wants to have a place where we all know we can play.

We tried to do this with the old clan, but I never got it working before, and this will probably help facilitate more coordinated games and stuff.

Yeah, stuff.

Also, to stay in accord with the topic:
Name: Footpad
Skill Level: 5
Availability: 15:00-23:00 PST
Preferred Gametype: Snipes no shields CTF
Can Host: Yes

I'll get on #halo when I have some free time. A dedicated server would be sweet, but can it please not always be snipes no shields? If I wanted that, I'd play Counter-Strike, not Halo. wink.gif

Oh, and in case it wasn't clear, my skills are ~3-3.5

Oh no, I'm just saying that because I love that particular gametype. I'm only putting two snipes no shields in the mapcycle >.>

Of course my server may be temporary, and we'll decide what to put on it later.
Begemotike
I'm thinking about making a sticky topic and then updating the first post with all Halo related activities as it becomes available. What do you guys think? Also, it'd be cool if teams could hook up on Skype or iChat, I do that for WoW and it works out great.

Also, a dedicated server would be beyond sweet. My one beef with prior ASW Halo get togethers is that there was a huge ratio of slayer on only certain particular maps. I love big CTF games the most - Death Island, Infinity, gephyrophobia, Blood Gulch - but I'll happily play anything. It's just that when there's a mix of things that everyone likes, then we can be out of our comfort zone for some games, and in it for others.

email, PM, and IM are all good ways to get ahold of me, IM is probably the fastest and most sure, however.
Two Jacks
If any server is created by anyone the title "HaloASW" would be a nice easy name to find. A dedicated server would be the best option.

Name: Two Jacks/WarriorPoet
Skill level: ****
Availability: Mon-Wensday mornings but mostly nights.
Preferred Gametype: CTF, Team Slayer, Race
Can Host: Yes- only 3 players on a small map, after that it lags to much.
Begemotike
It's not the first time I've looked into renting a game server, but it's just too pricey. If we had twenty or so people who wanted to chip in, it'd be well worth it, but as it is, until I make more, it won't happen. Someday! Someday!
DY4
Indeed, I can run the server, but it would be pretty laggy, considering my upload speed is only around 50kbps, plus through a wifi connection. If someone had an old Pentium III box or something hardwired to a decent line, it's easy to install the dedicated server software.

No offense Bege, but after the games we played yesterday, I don't think you're any better than me. I'm ranking myself as 3-3.5 and you're ranking yourself a 4. We should probably assign some kind of more definite meaning to those numbers.

I'm hoping to replace this machine this summer with a new computer. This old one is a 2.6GHz P4 with 1.5GB RAM, hooked to a 3mbps down/512kbps up connection.
Mackilroy
darth: if you do that, the old P4 would be a pretty good host machine. Dy4 and I were chatting in IRC yesterday and he said the requirements were a 700 MHz P4 and 128MB of RAM.

None taken. I'm rusty right now, yesterday was the second time I was playing in about a year. What is more, being able to hit someone at five paces in the head with a pistol isn't the most important skill in CTF by a longshot.

I'm an above average CTF player. I don't feel it's any kind of a huge boast, but I've turned a lot of games around for a lot of teams, and I know it's true. smile.gif

I'd like to play a reasonable game of CTF with some Ambrosians. This 2 on 2 crap don't cut it, sonny! 5 on 5 would be nice.
Two Jacks
Hm, we need a way to notify all who care that there's a game running. I would think that the only way to do this would be through the #halo IRC channel.

Edit: But this won't matter if there ends up being a dedicated server.
Shlimazel
Hi guys! Thanks for posting your info, Two Jacks, Begemotike, DY4. I'm all for 5-5 games. The only reason I haven't password locked our server for Halo so the players from the interlolz can't get on is that so far we've only got enough people for 2-3/3-2 games, and some interlolz gamers can help flesh out our game. I'm all for having a massive ambrosian deathmatch!

BTW, is anyone up for a game later? Probably somewhere around 3-4 later today, if you're interested in playing.
Begemotike
I think I should be around!
Shlimazel
I has a Bege! Yeah, excellant!
Shlimazel
Ok, gang, sorry to be late! Some stuff came up. I'm launching the game now, if you don't see it right away just wait. It'll be up!

{edit}

Wow, I jus got a real A-hole on the server. I'm restarting now.

{edit2}

Whew, another one! Maybe tomorrow would be better.
Shlimazel
Ok, gang, let's try this again. I don't think anything will come up like yesterday-that was totally unexpected, I had to go right now, and I stayed longer than I should have. Anyway, anyone up for a game, same time?
darth_vader
I could be up for a game around 1:30-3:00 today, CST. Remember to post your timezones when you mention times so we can be sure of when stuff actually is. Also you could password the server if you want to keep the rabble out.

Edit: 1:30, not 2:00.
Shlimazel
It's 12:40 EST here, so I'm not sure of the equivilant. I was going to start a game pretty soon, I think.

As to passwording-I'm looking into banning and kicking. I found this link, which looks like it might be promising, but I can't tell yet.

{edit}

Hmm, actually that doesn't seem to work. Oh, well. Maybe a password would be good. How about tia for This Is Ambrosia?
darth_vader

CST=EST-1
MST=EST-2
PST=EST-3

It's 11:45 here in Illinois.
Shlimazel
Ok, so 2:30 to 4:00 then. I can probably have a game up by 1:40 EST or so at the earliest, there's a thing or two I need to take care of first. So, I'll see you later!
darth_vader
I'll try to be there, it may be a bit earlier acually, and I may have to leave early too. I'm not really sure exactly what's going on for me this afternoon.
Shlimazel
Alright, I'll go ahead and start the game, then. If you don't see it immediately, just wait a moment, I'll have it up. I may need to stop playing rather sporadically, just to let you know. Not that I'll shut the sever down or anything, I just will need to take care of things occasionally.

Also, if we get annoying people I'll restart the game with a password. Everyone, if the game is locked, the password is tia, for This Is Ambrosia.
darth_vader
I'll try to be on in around 20 minutes. This may or may not happen.
Two Jacks
The server, "This Is Ambrosia" is not showing up on my server list. This same problem happened to me last time a game was going. How are these games being hosted? I should be able to join them through direct IP, so if you have an IP for your game post it here.
Shlimazel
No, the server is called HaloASW. If we have to lock the topic, then it the password is tia, which stands for This Is Ambrosia. Sorry to confuse!

Anyway, I'm back now. Server is going up now.
Shlimazel
Yo, guys, what's up? I launched the game but you are nowhere to be found. I'm relaunching right now. In case there's confusion, I need to restart at the end of the game because my enter key doesn't seem to want to let me continue.

Anyway, server going up now.
Mackilroy
Remember that we're more likely to use #halo for spur-of-the-moment games, and this for preplanned ones.
Shlimazel

Okey-dokey. BTW, I saw some active servers on #halo, but I couldn't find them on the lobby. What gives?

Ok, gang, some good games earlier.

How about scheduling a game for 4:00 EST next Wednesday? What do you guys think?
darth_vader

I'll still be in school then.
