So... do any of you play the MMORPG RuneScape?
I know, I know. It's not as good as many other games, like World of Warcraft, but it's free, so that's why I play it.
Please do not use this topic to explain how much you dislike it; rather, say if you play the game or not, and if you wish to, go ahead and give your username. Maybe anybody on these boards can be your friend.

My friend showed me it. I've seen people playing it at my college as well.
I'm afraid to devote some time of Real Life to it, but I think I might be willing to try it out, at least.

It is an alternative to many other MMORPG games, due to the fact that it is free, and membership is optional. It is getting better every year, and currently, they are saying that RuneScape is going to get a major graphical update within a few months. It will also be playable in FULLSCREEN.
So it's a pretty good try. But please bring your good grammar/spelling with you. Seriously. Barely anybody on there uses good grammar, so please be one of those who actually gives a care about having great English skills.

Two years ago I had the same grammar and spelling as every other loser on runescape. Then I came here. Instead of using my usual typing I brought that grammar here. I got screamed at until I started typing like I do now, about five minutes later. I then brought that grammar back to Runescape and haven't really played for three months. I've logged on every once and a while, but I'm just sitting in Varrock. As far as I've seen since I came here I'm the only one with good grammar.
I don't really play that much because I have no skills besides combat, because I don't play that much. I've been playing with my current account seven months longer than a friend of mine and he's level 90 somethin opposed to my 43. Seriously, all my skills besides combat are around 2-3. Magic 23 and combat skills around 40.

You've got a higher Magic level than me, and your combat is pretty much around mine, except that I'm level 51. Yeah, I quit playing for a while, but then returned. My highest skill, other than combat, would be my cooking.

I have been on Runescape (pronounced, "Run! Escape!") on and off for quite a while. I got to the point of having 7.8mill and above average members gear. Then a "friend" scammed me out of 5mill, a cannon and ranger boots I got from a treasure trail. about a 10mill loss. Since then I left my membership for dead and I only go on for holiday items. I do sometimes like to go on and check up on my bank account (2.4mill, abby whip and alot of other cool junk) but I'm currently waiting for Jagex to work out their issues before I commit to a time consuming member ship.

As for the Wilderness, I don't think it is as good as you wanted it to be. However, there's some minigames there, and the most profitable one is Fist of Guthix. That one gets you special equipment it would take thousands of GP to buy.

Hmm... ever hit over 100 damage with that? With Dharok's, your account sounds like you've played for years.
(EDIT) Interestingly, today was the release of a heavy graphical update for RuneScape. Members got extra graphical benefits that free players didn't have, but still, it looks really good now. Fullscreen, however, is also members only, so that's something you can only look forward to if you subscribe for membership.

I was a runescapes expert.... I played it ALOT.
I've made over £250 from runescape (amazing what people do for some pixels).
The max hit i've seen hit is 82 (you can't hit 100 because your HP only goes up to 99 like every other skill).
Look up:
Redd Death (something like that. it got hacked off me)
Lynsayrules
Liams great
Eaglerange1
blaze slay30
the above are just a few of what i've created and built up. eaglerange1 was my first "pure" man I loved that guy. lvl 43 or something hitting 12s

Don't play it anymore because they've taken away the wildy (practically the only fun bit to the game and my main way of making money). Plus they've messed up trading so even if I killed people I can't sell the stuff....

No, the most people can hit with Dharok is like 70. And the people who can hit that are about level 126 and use potions, prayer, and have 1/99 HP (I think the max level is 138 now, but it shouldn't affect your max hit) But I have about 75 strength. And with 15/74 HP I could hit 36 or 37 without potions and prayer.

Didn't you read what I just put?
It doesn't matter what your prayer is so long as you can do the strength prayers...
As long as your strength is 99 it doesn't matter what your combat level is (99 strength can be achieved at like 72 combat... i've seen it done).
The max lvl is 117 maybe 1 or 2 above or below (unless some new pots have been released?) ... (for actual skill lvls... cmb lvl is 126 and will not change).
Dharoks works best when your health is lower then 10% it's max value (But you need a very good defense because 1 good hit and you're dead anyway...).

I'm going to jump right in here. I do play Runescape. I have played it now for a long time now. Around 3-4 years I'm guessing. I got involved because kids at my school were doing it and it looked fun. I got on about the time of the rubber chicken Easter holiday. But, I've always been non-member and have stayed below 1000 total level (though I am moving up slowly). I'm more of a skiller, but my combat is decent. I have a combat level of 69 and a total level of 913 right now. My highest skill (which you may all laugh at) is Firemaking at 76, closely followed by 75 cooking. Runescape is fun every once in a while. But as far as I'm concerned, it's better than getting addicted to World of Warcraft or Oblivion.

RuneScape is free, so therefore, I can't play World of Warcraft or any pay-to-play kind of games. And no, I find it interesting that you have a Firemaking of 76. I probably would have those kind of levels if I didn't quit for a few years, as during those few years, I began to think that RuneScape was getting boring.

I'm afraid I already got addicted to Oblivion. I've played the Elder Scrolls series before. When I bought my Xbox, I sought to buy the third game. Unfortunately, the store was sold out. I've played Oblivion on the computer at Storms once before. He deleted my file then we all laughed afterwards.
I just recently started Runescape again. And I mean recently. Last week, a friend introduced the game to my brother. He's the kind of guy who needs help with everything, so I've decided to train my lame smithing skills to get him armor. I'm currently at level 11.

For a combat level 49 it's a wonder how I got all my armor with no way to earn money. Well I knew at first.
I used to sell Anti-Dragon shields for 300gp each but stopped since I got them from the Duke. That's technically against the rules. Not even technically. Now that I don't do that, I don't have any way of getting money. Most of my armor was given to me by some overgenerous friends. I just need more money. I'm working on smithing and not getting realy far.
I just recently started again, like I said previously. I'd stopped for a real long time, only logging on for a few seconds at a time. I've been playing for almost 7 years and am only level 49. I need to play more. It got boring for a time, but then fun again.

Try doing the Knight's Sword quest. It'll give you over 10,000 XP in Smithing, so you'll reach level 30 Smithing in no time. With that kind of level, you'll be able to make some steel stuff.

The faster way to earn money is to get Cowhides from cows and sell them. You get over a 100GP for just one cowhide, so it's a good idea to get them and sell them at the Grand Exchange.

What I heard was that nooby players were getting scammed a lot ('cause it's easy to do

) and they wanted some way to trade without the risk of being scammed.
I was about lvl 70 when the GE came about and I

The only part I really dislike about the trade limit is that you can't give items to friends anymore. They should really put in a "give item" function in the game that requires your bank pin and five conframation screens.
On that note, party petes sucks now that it's nearly impossible to throw a private drop party.

As far as scamming people, it's not really a scam if they offer you the money right, and not you asking for it?

I used to play Runescape, but I quit because it was craptastic. I don't play MMOs much because they're highly addicting and many of them involve large amounts of grinding. I want a little more excitement. Having a 400Mhz G4 never helped any either. If I want social interaction with my gameplay I fire up Tremulous.
