Hi, quick question.

I'm trying to record from iTunes and a USB microphone. When I play back, while I think i hit the notes right, the computer recorded it slightly late. Also on playback it's really scratchy and distorted. Sometimes turning the quality WAY down helps, but that no longer seems to help.

I have a 1ghz imac, 1.25gb RAM. Is this insufficient?

edit2: separated into 2 problems.

1: input from the usb headset is delayed 1 second due to reasons i can't fathom. input from USB headset is crackly because it's a piece of [ahem].

2. crackly playback is still issue. When i put the bit rate down to below 64 k, it's good, and the only crackling is from the POS USB mic.

this means my only question relates now to quality questions - can i alter something to keep the bit rate high?

Is bit rate a big issue when it's going to be played on speakers?

Cheers,
Guapo

Hey Guapo,
Which application are you using? WireTap Studio? If so, do you have the same problem once you export the audio file and play it back in another application like iTunes or Quicktime?
ElGuapo7
Wiretap Studio. I haven't exported anything, just trying to play the raw data back (when you've just finished recording, to see how it all sounds.)

Definitely export it and see how it sounds. You're at the very low end of the system requirements, and Live Preview is what will be affected most. As it's trying to encode on the fly, your computer is most likely having a hard time keeping up. Let us know how it goes smile.gif
