Well, I'm going to get a Wii this week, and I'd like some suggestions for good party games to get as well. I already have decided on Super Smash Brothers: Brawl, so you don't need to mention that. Suggestions?

Hmm. Well, there's Mario Kart Wii, for starters.
Red Steel has multiplayer, though it might not be suitable for people under 13; if everyone's older than that, though, it shouldn't be a problem.
Beyond that, I'm kinda hazy on this aspect.

Super mario galaxy is great, as is Zelda.

Guitar Hero III is great at parties, though slightly on the expensive side if you have to buy the game and two controllers (perhaps you could find some used somewhere?)
Beyond that, and Super Smash Bros, I don't have much experience with games that allow for multiplayer beyond Mario Party 8 (which can be good or bad, depending on your tolerance of minigames).
For other, general play games, I would suggest Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime 3, and Super Mario Galaxy, as well as many Virtual Console games.

I was going to suggest Mario Party 8 as well (I own it, and I think it's pretty sweet), but seeing how there's been so many of 'em, I wasn't sure I should suggest it.
Rock Band might also be good, but it's gotta be the most expensive of the bunch...better bring your checkbook if you want it.

Off the top of my head, my selection a games is Wii Sports, Wii Play, Zelda, Call of Duty 3, Red Steel, Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy, Sonic and the Secret Rings, Super Smash Brothers Brawl, Mario Kart Wii, Worms: A Space Oddity, Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Starfox 64, Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and Sonic the Hedgehog 3. All of the above I recommend.
That doesn't include my backwards compatible Gamecube games, but does include Virtual Console.

Not party games but I thoroughly enjoyed Battalion Wars 2 and Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess was truly epic. For party games SSBB and Mario Kart wii should be your first choices.

My personal top games: Super Paper Mario, Zelda TP, and if you haven't played it yet, Resident Evil 4.
Other games that are good: Super Mario Galaxy, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles (great 2 player game)
Solid Titles: Rayman Raving Rabids, Zak and Wiki, Trauma Center. I would also put Smash Bros down here, maybe it would be higher on my list if I did the multiplayer more....but I don't.

Boom Blox is really fun; good party game with quite a few modes of gameplay (any game that features an exploding Jenga mode has got to be awesome). Worth a rental.
Don't bother with the WiiWare Final Fantasy game unless you like 3D SimCity style games with add-on micropayments.

Eh, Smash should do you for a good while.

All the big epic single player games that everyone's mentioned are all good. Resident Evil 4 and Twilight Princess are must-plays I'd say (or Okami!). Mario Galaxy is brilliant, but for some reason the joy went out of it for me when it got difficult.
Also, don't buy Red Steel.

I was quite disappointed with having to play everything again as Luigi, there just wasn't enough difference between him and Mario to justify playing through the entire game again just to unlock another tedious Purple Coin level. I did stick it out and get all stars with both of them, but a better reward, I feel, would have been to place flying power-ups in all of the levels. Now that would have been interesting.

If you're a fan of Homestar and the gang, get some Wii Points and get Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People (SBCG4AP).
Otherwise, get Prime 3, Mario Kart Wii, and whatever else tickles your fancy.

But Luigi had many potential methods of abusing level designs with his higher jump. Reaching areas in ways you weren't supposed to was fun and reminded me of back when I was abusing Super Mario 64's physics. Though if you played through the game in the intended way again, I can see it being a bit boring to redo it all again.

If you get Mario Kart Wii, you should at least try out the wiimote addon for it - I've been hanging out in Best Buy for an hour or two everyday and goddamn that game is twice as fun with the wheel.
