After a few iTunes syncs, the ringtones that were synced and on the iPhone via iToner are mysteriously gone. Sync after sync the ringtones are there, then at some point my phone rings I get the iPhone default "marimba" ringtone and that is when I discover the iToner ringtones are no longer there.
Why?
I'm using the latest iToner, OS X, iTunes, and iPhone software.

Hello,
Sorry for your frustration. Can you please verify what version of iToner you are using? Are you syncing with any other computers aside from the one with iToner on it?

I just encountered the same issue this week.
I sync and sync, and suddenly, my ringtones from iToner have vanished.
I have tried to put them back on but they won't go.
I am running 10.5.3 with iTunes 7.6.2 and iToner 1.0.7
Thoughts? Can I get this functional again?
THanks for your help.

Hello jennielf,
Are you syncing with any other computers aside from the one with iToner on it? Are you getting any errors either in iToner or in Console (found in your Utilities folder). Are you able to replicate this problem?
If you still can't sync, try deleting the Ambrosia Ringtone Cache folder from ~/Library/Application Support. Are you then able to sync?

Thanks for replying so quickly.
Ya know, I did sorta sync with my work computer (G5 iMac 10.5.3) about a month ago to pull off some books.
But I am fairly certain I synced with my home computer after that with no issues.
I am at work right now, but I will attempt your suggestions when I get home and will post my results here.
Thanks!

Hello,
No problem. The key thing here is that iToner (actually, just the iTunes plug-in) needs to be installed on any computer the you are syncing your iPhone with. It can even be a demo version. Otherwise the preference file will be changed and the ringtones will "vanish".

I am also using 10.5.3 with iTunes 7.6.2 and iToner 1.0.7.
I however only sync with one computer.

I tried your suggestions.
There were no error messages in my console logs.
I trashed the Ambrosia Cache file.
I was then able to sync successfully!
Thanks! Never would have found that file on my own.

Jeff,
Are you able to replicate this problem? Can you trhink of anything that coincided with them vanishing? Do you see any errors in Console? If you delete the Ambrosia Ringtone Cache folder from ~/Library/Application Support, does it happen again?

From what I can tell its random. I sync the ringtones and they work fine. I sync my iPhone as normal and they work fine... then, at some point they are gone. Presumably after a normal iPhone sync. (as I said, I only notice the ringtones are gone when I get a call and I'm back to the default iPhone ringtone).

About the best I can do right now is let the developers know. Without any errors, triggers or means to replicate the problem, it's extremely difficult to chase down. I can see how it's still a possibility for them to vanish, but we can't make it happen yet. If anybody finds a pattern to this, please let us know.
