You can't play it yet, because it doesn't get released until tomorrow, but I have wink.gif

That being said, is anyone planning on getting the game? Anyone fans of the other games in the series?

Its the first time i've played a Civ game since Civ 3 I think, and back then I didn't get into the game because it was turn based, and I was more into the RTS style of warcraft, age of empires and starcraft. I was rather stunned when I heard that they were making a version for the console, as the last time I played strategy games on the console I got aggrivated quickly and furthermore, a turn-based strategy game didn't seem like it'd jive well on a console; I didn't quite see how that'd be a marketable game.

But I have to say I've been pleasantly surprised. Sure, it takes a little while to get used to the turn based aspect, but I think that the game succeeds on console because the game is turn based, as that eliminates on-the-fly micromanaging that the limited controls of a console make aggravating. Additionally, the game isn't simply about militaristic domination as most RTS games are, and while it seems odd to say, winning through technological, cultural or economic methods is just as fun as winning through militaristic ways.

Once you get into the flow of it the game is highly addictive and very time consuming. I was up till 4:30 last night blush.gif

I think turn based is about the only way you can do strategy on a console. There have been a few RTSs on consoles but they haven't been particularly good. People who already are fans of the Civ games are used to the turn based aspect of it. TBSs mostly function as "society simulators" more than military focused ones, and it's not all that odd that diplomatic victory is something given just as much consideration as military might in a TBS game.

So how is this in any way a RTS (Real Time Strategy) game?
Admiral Zombat
Darth Vader - yep it certainly makes sense, though its hard to ignore the military aspect of the game, or any other aspect, for that matter.

Chamrin - It isn't, where'd you get that idea ?

It says in the title: console rts. In addition, it says "like most RTS" in the topic. RTS is real time strategy.

Just looks like a watered-down version of Civ 4 to me.

Actual RTS games don't seem to survive the transition to console very well.

ah right, my mistake. Though its clear in the body of the original post that it was not an RTS, but a TBS game. whatever.

Mispeled - what seems watered down?
