I am looking for games that meet the following requirements:

Carbon or Cocoa

10.3.9 Compatible

Will run adequately on 250mhz G3, with 4MB VRAM.

I am trying to enhance my wardriving machine with some entertainment. Currently the only games I have installed are EV Nova and Warp Rogue, a beta of a rouge-like game that was never finished so it is very buggy and unbalanced. I have been using Macs since System 6, so trust me, I know of about every OS 9 game out there... but I am trying to get away from classic. I downloaded a couple text adventure game off of versiontracker, but they only had, say, 30 or so screens, so they were VERY boring. Then I downloaded one called SolarWolf... I'll be nice to the developers and simply say that it was not very fun. I would appreciate some suggestions... RPG's would be great, but I am not too particular... no puzzle games, though. Thank you.

If you're into old DOS games, you can link to DosBOX on this site and then download tons of those old games you may have grown up with:

I looked over the system reqs and your comp can probably run DosBOX, but there's nothing like good 'ol empirical testing.

ahhh, RPGS. Some of the best ones are the cheapest.

The hardest and most challenging free RPG's. It's a classic. (I suggest playing with small rooms and versions under 300.)

Also, the Genforge games and the Avernum games are excellent. (www.spiderwebsoftware.com) if those don't run well, play the older Exile games.

Oh, one game that I almost forgot.

Cave Story: http://www.miraigamer.net/cavestory/

The above is a fan site, that links to a MacOS version of the game. It's fantastic, and everyone should play it at least once.

My text-based RPG of choice is Angband, though there are many similar games.

P.S. Given your joined date, and that you're asking about a Powerbook G3, I thought for sure this would be a gravedig.

Thank god it wasn't. I HATE how uptight people are about those here. I will give Angband or some of its variants a look.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. GutlessWonder, how old do you think I am? I was -2 when DOS first dominated the market laugh.gif I appreciate the idea, and actually, one of my favorite games of all time ran under DOS:

I seriously doubt if it could run under emulation with my machine specs, but it would be fun to try. Also, I had some difficulty navigating the Cave Story site. I was able to download a couple programs, but I can't be sure if they were the right ones.

zamzx zik, TOME looks complex as hell, which is awesome. Why do you recommend versions under 300? I do not know the difference between the versions.

Can anyone suggest a suitable NES emulator? The fancy, super-accurate ones want a 600-800 mhz box.

zamzx zik
300 was more complete.

The version after it was so annoying, and you couldn't select classes, and nothing worked...right...the first time...

It frusterated me, so I can't honestly tell you to download anything else tongue.gif

cavestory is just an uber awesome sidescroller, linkie; http://www.miraigamer.net/cavestory/csdeluxe.php
Percy
The RPG Cythera? Great game. You can find it here on this site, too! ohmy.gif
If you have Flash, maybe try out N? It's a ninja game with 500 levels (plus user created content). I played it for a while and got the first 125 levels done, but then I had to turn in my computer to the school (and I forgot to keep the preferences file sad.gif )

Thank you for the link zamzx zik, I will give it a go!

Percy, "N" is hella fun! I actually discovered it back when I worked for an apple authorized reseller, but had forgotten all about it. Sadly, it runs at about 10 fps on my poor G3, but it runs smooth as silk on my girlfriend's macbook biggrin.gif
