For some reason no movies can be saved out of Snapz Pro. It gives me this message, "An unexpected error occurred. Do you wish to delete the movie, or attempt to save it for layer? (-2010)". How can I make it save movies again?
I've been using Snapz Pro since version 2 first came out. On a Mac, now running 2.1.2 on OS 10.5.4.
Of course this is a UTILITY program. Its only value is in being immediately useful when you need it. This has cost me several hours today while I'm working on a deadline, and instead if moving my project forward I've been dealing with a broken software system.
If nobody can answer the above question, then how about:
- Can I get my money back?
- Can you recommend a competing product?
(Sorry for the testiness, but you have no idea the stress this is causing me today.)

I have no idea what's going on in your situation. But it may be that there's not enough hard drive space to save the movie. Are you sure there's plenty of Gb free on the hard drive where you are saving the movie to? (I realize this is most likely not the problem, but it's worth double checking.)
ScreenFlow is a competing product that has a very nice feature set. One of the good things about ScreenFlow is that it saves your movie in an "uncompressed" format when things are first captured. You can subsequently go back to that ScreenFlow document and edit, do special stuff (highlights, call outs, zooms, cropping), and save in a variety of compressed formats. This approach seems inherently safer than SnapzPro which forces you to save in a specific format right after capturing the movie: without the ability to edit, or choose another compression, size dimensions, etc. later. Although I've not had the problem you've just had, once in a long while I did shoot a movie that wasn't saved and I was only told this by SnapzPro late in the compression/save process--and it was a big waste of time. Since the ScreenFlow files are, essentially, saved right away (with no subsequent compression process) it seems that their approach is safer for the initial preservation of a movie capture.

Hello Sucker,
Sorry for your frustration. Can you please provide the specifics of the recording (size, framerate, dimensions, codec used)? Where are you saving it to? How much disc space do you have available? Please try the following:
1. Invoke Snapz and press command-Q to quit Snapz. If you can not invoke Snapz, open the Activity Monitor found in your Utilities folder. Look for a process named "Snapz Pro X", select it, and then select "Quit Process".
2. Remove the Snapz preference file "com.ambrosiasw.snapz.plist", which is located in the Home/Library/Preferences folder
3. Download the latest version of Snapz from <http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/dl/snapzprox>
4. Install Snapz. It should install over the old version, and you should not need to enter your registration info again.
5. Do a small test movie and let us know how it goes.

Thanks! Trashing the preference file and running the installer did the trick! I only wish I could have figured that out myself. Now everything works again. By the way, I did download the trial version of ScreenFlow and haven't been able to get it to work so I'm still a Snapz guy.
Thanks for the help.
