Monks in Cambodia have been knocked for six by an unusual present - a cow with two extra legs.

The farmer who donated the bovine rarity feared her extra set of pins would bring him, bad luck.

Two-month-old Cham Leck, which means "Strange" in the Khmer language, is being cared for by monks at the pagoda near the Cambodian capital, Phnom Penh.

As well as her standard four legs, Cham has two extras hanging from her neck.

Some locals in the heavily superstitious country have been treating the calf with some caution.

One said: "She looks so calm and peaceful that after a while you forget she has six legs.

"Then you raise your head and see these two extra hooves on the end of these spindly legs coming out of her neck."

Very interesting mutation. I'd be interested in obtaining a sample of this sixy beast's DNA.

This one is supriseing to me. It actually looks like it could be a genetic mutation.

In most cases the so called mutations are really just the process that creates identical twins gone awry. Two heads etc.

The genes that regulate the amount of legs can be changed in organisms such as tadpoles and fruit-flies (we've had mutations that replace their antennae with legs), but on this scale...
I wonder if the legs have any meat on them. The beef industry might be interested in this, even if the two extra legs are slightly atrophied.

It would be interesting if the cow could actually move those extra legs, but from what the article says, it seems that this is not the case. They're just hanging there...

So what does the cow think of the extra limbs? Has she found any use for them? I could certainly do with an extra set of arms. Extra legs would probably be cumbersome, though.

Seems like they would start to hurt its back after awhile if they both hung off to one side.

What about the possiblity that it is the fetus of the cow's unfortunate twin?

I saw a two headed girl(Or girls, I should say) on TV once. Hehe...imagine if a really huge 8 foot tall two headed kid was born...he'd basically be an Ogre.
