The Companions
An EVE group of individuals, banding together to create a spark of safety and hope in a universe of darkness, distrust, and despair.
* Structure
Our group, called The Companions, was founded by the gathering of friends to provide safety. Safety for ourselves by coöperating, safety for our allies, friends, and innocent people. Thus, the Companions has little structure and little rules. It is even preferred that the people do not know of our existence, mostly because the knowledge that we exist could lure (possible) enemies to us, which would negate part of why The Companions came into existance.
Nevertheless, we need order, a way to create plans, communications etc.
Thus, we have our rules and three Heads, each coördinating a branch of our group.
These are:
1) Trade (coördinated by the Head of Trade)- Consists of all trading, mining, non-military acquirement. One day we hope to make from most of this branch a corporation, to purchase a planet. The corporation and the planet are ideally there to be used to sell our individual services.
Never will the corporation show any sign of being part of our group.
2) Information (coördinated by the Head of Information) - Consist of spies, explorers, hackers, any other information-providing source and member-type and most all-round members. Furthermore, Information also provides the main communications-network.
3) Craft and Parts (coördinated by the Head of Craft and Parts) - Consists of all military acquirement, repairs, Research and Development, Hangar-maintenance, defensive and offensive centre, military communications (in times of need), strategical and tactical planning, military training/simulation facilities, and storage of military equipment.
These Heads are first among equal, and unless their integrity or/and quality of service is doubted with reasonable cause (then, an investigation will take place, and finally a vote, wherein all but the Heads and any persons involved in the investigation and accusation may partake. 50% of the votes are needed to be able to replace the respective Head), they remain in this position as long as they wish. Should a Head be forced to lay down her function, an election will be held. Furthermore, the demoted Head may be punished. Members who wish to become a certain Head are to file in a request, which will be responded to, but the concerning Head may decide whether she will remain or not. Should a Head wish to lay down her function as Head, this decision will be made clear to all members, and members (except Heads, of course) may try to attain the function. A vote will then be held, wherein all members except the Heads and the candidates may partake, and the candidate with the highest number of votes will attain the function of Head. The new Head will immediately start her duty after being aided by the previous Head and several members of the branche (four members chosen randomly from the list of members of that respective branche who wish to perform this function, these members are called 'the aides') concerned, to ready her for the function she accepted. Should the aides deem the Head-to-be unfit for her task, they will report before a meeting of the Companions, who will then vote whether the members agree or disagree with the aides, after which respectively the Head will be installed or a new election will be held. Should the aides deem her worthy of her function, the aides will report this and the installment will take place at a general meeting, officially appointing her Head of her respective branch.
*notes regarding the Heads:
-between being elected and the installment, the member is known as The Elected.
-All members may only be appointed to Head once (this includes the final installment, thus
a member having been The Elected, but deemed unfit , may be voted for).
-The three Heads, when making decisions in council together are called: The Council of Three, or just The Council.
* Appearance
The appearance of a member of the Companions is not bound by any restriction but one: Never are you to show any sign of your membership of the Companions. The only time this is not the case is on special occasions, deemed serious enough by The Council.
The symbol of the Companions is a pair of hands clasped in friendship with a blue-white light-source seemingly captured within these hands, shining through, the whole symbol having a circular form. Our symbol signifies our companionship, trust, and respect for one another and for other living beings, and the Companions in general.
*note regrding our symbol: the symbol of The Companions may only be worn in meetings with fellow members, and it may only be used in communication between members. It is advised to make as little us of our symbol as possible. Addition: Solely by order of the Council may our symbol be used outside normal restrictions.
Our motto is: To Survive, To Defend, To Defy.
Explanation: -To survive is obvious. We mean to stand forever.
-To defend: We defend eachother, The Companions as a whole, our allies, neutral persons/groups, and innocent people.
-To defy: It's a cruel world.. but we mean not just to persevere, but to stand up against corrupting, evil, cruel forces, and never to give in as long as we exist.
*note regarding our motto: as with the symbol, the same goes for the motto of the Companions.
*note: The only thing perhaps not obvious to an outsider is that we prefer to keep the existence of The Companions secret the better to live up to all parts of our motto. Though we prefer not to be known, as every member becomes one of us willingly and agreeing in full with our motto we do not lose any power whatsoever, and perhaps even gain the ability to reach there where others are pushed back because their group or clan is well-known.
* Philosophy
Respect - Being a group of many different individuals, you must be able to work with, live around being from wherever in the galaxy, male or female, different beliefs and appearances. Should you have any inhibitions against this, membership in the Companions is not for you.
- As Companions we have our dignity and respect for living beings. You may never lower yourself to foul acts like spying on or attacking or committing any other hostile act upon beings and groups who have a neutral or allied disposition towards us. Committing such an act is not the Companions' way. You are also not to have any contact with the shadow trades/business like slave trade, drugs trade, etc. unless when trying to spy on, or infiltrate and terminate these nefarious groups of people. These dealings will only be allowed after permission is granted by the Council.
- Stealing is not allowed, except in very rare circumstances, again deemed serious enough by the Council.
- Escape pods will not be targeted and shot, unless in circumstances when the Council gives permission.
-Neutral and allied people in distress will not be ignored, but actively aided, as protecting the world and making it safe, bringing justice, is a main goal of the Companions and all who are just of heart. This does not mean one must recklessly plunge in dangers far greater than one can handle, and aiding neutral people is not to be done when it will result in hostile actions from allies unlss one has permission and direct orders from the Council to do so.
*note regarding escape pods: There is currently a discussion going on as to whether an exception should be made for pirates and our most devious and cruel enemies. It is currently preferred by us to have these persons captured and brought before justice, rather than killed.
*note on Council decisions overriding usual rules: within a month of the decision, the Council will explain themselves before a general meeting why they deemed the decision taken necessary. Unconvinced members may make a motion of distrust, and if such a motion is made, a vote will be held if at least 5% of the gathered members has signed the motion. Should the motion gain 50% of the votes or more, an investigation will be started towards the decision of the Council and it's circumstances. If the report is unsatisfactorily, the Heads will be forced to resign. Then the same actions will take place as when the vote would have gained support of 75%. Should the motion gain a support of at least 75% of the gathered members, the Council will be forced to resign, and a temporary Council will be chosen at the same meeting. As soon as possible, a vote will be held for new candidates for all three functions. The temporary Head will then replace the former Head as advisor next to the aides. The temporary Heads are required to function within their respective branches for at least five years with exceptional standing and experience. Heads who are forced to resign will be judged on the scale of offences, and treated accordingly.
Loyalty - As alliances shift, opinions change, foes may become allies and vice versa. Although every member has his/her past, and this past will not be forgotten, to be in the Companions means that one must have true individuality towards any except the Companions. This so we will never compromise ourself, and never risk ourself to become captured in a net of contradictory relations. Still, members have plenty of opportunity to make contacts and carefully created relations which do not compromise our position.
* Breaking the rules
Should a member not adhere by our rules, he may be forced to leave the Companions, or face other punishment for his actions.
-1 to 2 minor offences: The member will be questioned by the Council as to why he broke our rules. Satisfactory explanations will result in a slight punishement (mostly, a fine). Unsatisfactory explanations will result in a more severe punishment (large fine + forced to work in the Companions' services for at least three months without monetary payment)
- 3 to 4 minor offences: The member will again be questioned by the Council, satisfactory explanations resulting in special assigned duty for an unspecified period of time, teaching the respective member to respect our rules. Furthermore, he will be stripped of all his promotions if any, until said member proves trustworthy. Evaluation of said member will be frequent during his duty, and for at least six months after the duty has expired. Said member will also be required to pay a huge fine. Should the member be unable to explain his motivations well enough to satisfy the Council, he will be severely punished: a huge fine must be paid, at least one year of service for the branches, and such a member will be no longer part of the Companions. Furthermore, additional actions may be taken, for example turning the respective member over to the people / group / government he harmed/insulted, etc.
-5 and more minor offences result in a huge fine, at least one year of service to the Companions, loss of membership of the Companions, and additional actions are possible.
-1 major offence: as with 3 to 4 minor offences.
-2 and more major offences: as with 5 and more minor offences.
A minor offence: Failing to aid neutral or allied persons, carelessly endangering neutral or Allied persons, stealing, getting in contact with an enemy of The Companion / with a group The Companions find heinous and evil, or in any way unintentionally (trying to) compromising or endangering The Companions, our safety, our standing with neutral or allied groups or governments, or revealing information about The Companions. These are also forbidden when regarding a neutral or allied group / government.
A major offence: intentionally killing or trying to kill neutral or allied persons, spying on allies, conspiracy against The Companions or with an enemy of The Companion / with a group The Companions find heinous and evil, or in any way intentionally (trying to) compromising or endangering The Companions, our safety, our standing with neutral or allied groups or governments, or revealing information about The Companions. These are also forbidden when regarding a neutral or allied group / government.
*note regarding minor offences: regarding the cirumstances these may become a major offences.
*note regarding members who lose their membership: These will still be held to their promise not to reveal any information about The Companions, and they will be monitored for at least two years after they leave The Companions, to decrease the chance they will report about The Companions. Should an ex-member be considered too untrustworthy to let go, another solution will be made. These cases will be dealt with by the Council personally.
* Revealed.. what now?
In the case we, in any way, become known to the rest of the universe, all of our code remains the same except for some cases, for which we have made the following rules:
-You may use our symbol, quote our motto, but not in a way making both seem to have any other meaning than they do in the code. Furthermore, it is not to be used when The Companions are not involved, although our symbol may be worn on the outfits of members, and may be depicted on vessels of members.
-When displaying our symbol and/or motto, you will act according to the code.
*note: With 'the code', the code of conduct is meant, which is the document you see now before you.
