Believe it or not, there is a Game Boy Advance game out there called Advance Wars, and despite its mundane name, the game is far from ordinary. The basic style of play is simple. Advance Wars is a turn based strategy game in which each player uses factories, airbases, and ports to build different types of units. Each unit has a different style of play, from the down to earth machine gun fire of weak Infantry units, to the kill you as soon as look at you, long range Rockets. The trick is to use each unit when needed, and only when needed, to defeat the enemy, or capture his base. Easy right? Well, it would be easy, except for the fact that the enemy AI is incredibly intelligent. For example, there is a certain level, that you are supposed to but don't have to finish in eight days, and during those eight days, the computer plays as cautiously as possible, hiding behind long range units that kill you before you see them. Even worse, as soon as the eight days are up, the enemy sends out all of the units they've been relentlessly hoarding. And good luck if you're playing when the fog of war is on. In Warcraft I and II, the fog of war only made the game slightly harder. In Advance Wars, the enemy uses the fog of war like a cloak, constantly staying out of sight, and using long ranged units. When the computer deigns to let its secretive existence be known, it usually manifests itself in the form of several medium tanks, the most powerful units. Worse yet, if you want to win, you have to learn how to use the fog of war. Despite its sly sniping, the computer is every bit as cautious as possible; to trap it, you have to lure it into an ambush. And even that is very risky, as half the time you find out you've bitten off more than you can chew. Anyway, the game is awsome, very easy to learn, and has multiplayer, in which each player takes turns, so you only need one Gameboy Advance, and one game. This is pretty cool, since I'm the only person with a gameboy advance at my school. And another great feature is the ability to design your own battle map to play on. I would talk a lot more about the game, but I feel that I've already said enough.
