Rules
I would post the first move by co-ordinates.
Someone would post back, with the co-ordinates for the next move.
You would have to say clearly, BLACK or WHITE in captials, just to prevent confusion, at the top of your post.
People would keep posting their moves as the game progressed.
Now, there would be boundries. For instance, no one would be able to post every other two times. You would post, then another 2 people would have to post before you could post again. Also, your move could come when you want after this, so you could change sides easily. You would just come up with the best move you could think of at the time.
No planning would be alloud (publically, anyway. I couldn't stop people from planning privatly, obviously). This would be very interesting as it would be almost impossible to make set plans, only taking it one move at a time.
What you would end up with is a long, drawn out battle of multiplayer, internet chess with many people at various skills.
If you would have trouble with co-ordinates, it would be wise to go into your chess program, set on co-ordinates, and play the game out. Keep updating it as you need.

I think it would be pretty interesting, so maybe we could give it a go. Instead of asking if it's a good idea, I'll just post the first move and see how it goes from there. A couple of people on AIM said it would be good, so I'm hoping this'll catch on.

Open-plan move, loads of possibilities.
Have fun.
