Years ago I bought Marathon 1.0.2 (The CD) and installed it on my computer. Well, things happened, new comp, etc, and I no longer have a copy except on the CD. I thought it would be fun to play it on my network but when I tired to install it it asks me for a serial number (This didn't happen last time). I figure, hey, a number is only like five bucks, right?, so I go to Bungie.com to buy one. BUNGIE HAS BEEN BOUGHT BY MICROSQUISH! NOOOO! Anyway, the evil people at MICROSUCK don't give support for old bungie games. Skip them. Could someone tell me a serial number for marathon 1 and the name that you're supposed to type in? And no im not pirating here. Besides the game is like 7 years old, and I really did buy it way back when. Although I am wondering why you need a serial code to run it off the CD. oh well. If you don't have the number I think you could Email your marathon prefrences. My Email is mgibe@mac.com
Thanks

I'm pretty sure Bungie released the source code for it a while back anyway...

I don't have the serial numbers for it though, I got all my copies off of the Mac Action Sack. You could just buy that and all of the other stuff off...umm...well, ebay right now until Bungie gets their store up...

What is the source code anyway? I have most of the games in the Action Sack so I don't want to buy them again. Where do I get the code? Do I just type that in where te serial code is sposed to be? Ah, so many questions. Thanks anyway.

The source code is the actual engine of the game. It's the code that makes up Marathon itself. And it's probably a bit too long to put in as a serial number. However, if you really want the source code (ie: you want to build your own game from the engine) visit the Marathon Open Source Project. They've got it lying around somewhere, or you could just take Aleph One for a spin... it's good, trust me!

Anyway, as to your difficulties, on the CD there should actually be a file called 'Serial Numbers' or something similar. On my copy of Marathon and of Marathon 2 there was anyway, and it had one single and two network serials in it. If not, you might want to try a search in Google for "Marathon Serial Codes" or something of the kind. Technically, this is illegal (warez) but since you already own Marathon, and so long as it's only for your personal use, it should be OK. Just don't advertise it.

Enjoy the game. The Marathon Trilogy Games are some of my most loved games ever, and if you own Marathon Infinity, you might want to download the Aleph One engine and the scenario files from Marathon (it's at Bungie's Big House) for a reworked Marathon scenario, with better graphics etc.

Hope that is helpful.

Asks for a serial number?? I've got all three Marathons and none of them have asked me for a serial number. What's up with that?

I'm guessing that you bought the Trilogy Set? They come with serial codes disabled, but if you bought the games seperately, you needed a serial number the first time you ran the game.

[Edit: 200 posts. Wow. I feel ashamed at my meager posting amount, considering that I've been around for almost a year and a half. Ah, well. /Edit]

My point about the source code was that obviously Bungie is not trying to prevent pirates or anything of the sort anymore, so I wouldn't worry about getting a different serial number than your original.

<snip>

(Though I realize it makes little difference at this point, considering the questionable legality of posting serial numbers where anyone can see them, it would be better if you could handle this through e-mail, thanks -StarS)
