Full Version: State of the Forum Address...
Ambrosia Software Web Board > General Interest > Just Games
StarStrafer
Hard to believe it, but Just Games is coming up on its 6 month anniversary (I think it started on May 16). In that time, it's obvious we've established quite a respectable following. While by no means one of the busiest forums here, the daily traffic seems to have stabilized at a pretty good level. And without a doubt, this is one of the most friendly and well-behaved of the Ambrosia web boards.

Within the scope of Just Games, we've got quite a variety of topics going. Everything from resolving harware troubles to discussing the merits of individual games to even some debate threads (the true mark of a well-established forum ) regarding emulation, consoles vs. PCs, etc. One issue I would like to address is to remind those who've joined us in recent months, and even those who've been here since the beginning, that appropriate Just Games topics are by no means limited to computer/video games. Games of any kind, including sports and board games, are all welcome subjects of discussion here. I'm not asking anyone to start such a topic, simply to keep in mind that they are more than welcome to do so or to continue discussing electronic games at their leisure. The point of this place is to talk about anything and everything game-related that should happen to interest you.

Another point I would like to raise regards the "pirating" of software. You may have noticed that I edited a post in this topic in which someone posted a serial number for the original Marathon game. This was after several posts that made well-taken points about how doing such a thing is no longer of any consequence for several reasons, including the fact that the person asking for the number did own the game legally, and that updated versions of the game no longer required the serial number. In light of this, my actions may seem uncalled for. However, please understand that the forum moderators cannot take the risk of allowing anything even potentially illegal to appear on the boards, since all forum content (with the exception of posted images) is hosted on Ambrosia's servers.

In concluding, I must say that Just Games has yet to disappoint me, and that it is a great privilege to serve as a forum leader here. Thanks for taking the time to read this, now sally forth get gaming, and take a moment each day to remember that wasting time is, truly, a beautiful thing.

Well, I for one am quite pleased to be part of this board. My interests in the separate boards has shifted throughout my time here, but I've always stayed with Just Games because of the friendly environment and the good topics. (and good moderation)

This is Director of Internal Board Security Begemotike Anonymous. As the man who heads the cabinet responsible for the safety of loyal posters here, I am honored to have served under President StarStrafer and would like to emphasize that these boards are indeed the safest they have ever been, thanks in large part to his willingness to support stricter measures in the effort against spammers and flamers. He has given law enforcement the needed tools to ensure YOUR continued posting happiness.

With my obscure, and very pathetic, piece of political satire over, I'd like to say that it really HAS been a pleasure moderating this board. I've grown rather proud of it over time, and while by no means the most active or controversial of boards... hmm.. you know, it occured to me that SPORTS could be discussed here... speaking of controversial.. heh heh heh...

Memo to President: Have found a new, if potentially dangerous, way to bolster the economy even higher...

Well, there's not much I've got to say other than a big "ditto" to StarStrafer, but that'd be against the web board guidelines, so I guess I should probably add more ... Like Conor said, we've also seemed to acquire a faithful (albeit small) following, which is also good to see. But the best thing about it is that, although our guests have created several intriguing debates, we've all been very civil, with very little flaming and/or other inappropriateness (other than the rare spam post). Whether it's that Conor gets to them before I do (the loser ), or that we're nicer than the rest of the boards, someone deserves a heartfelt w00t from myself, and I'm inclined to think it should be you folks. In some ways, I'm glad I have little editing and deleting to do around here. Let's keep it that way, as I don't want to do the stuff I have to do occasionally on IRC.

All in all, though this is certainly not a Just Chat or EV B&B, this has been pretty successful, and I'm glad to see it doing as well as it is. Keep up the good work, guys, and don't worry, Bege isn't spying on you ... (If he is, he isn't telling us, which means he's spying on us too. iPh33r.)

Firstly, I'd just like to say how happy I have been with the Just Games community since it's launch back in May. It caught me by surprise, actually, and the first I heard of it (I don't visit the Main page much!) was in aa topic in Ambrosia Banter that had been locked and moved here. Intrigued, I followed the link, read a few topics and have been a regular since. Whilst I do not post here a great deal, I read almost every topic, and contribute to those which I think I can. And in the past six odd months I have noticed that this is one of the friendliest Ambrosia boards, with it's own unique, relaxed and civilised atmosphere.

Aside from the Coldstone board this is my visited board overall, and I must say that that is due both to the moderators here and to the members themselves. Everyone seems to work well together here, and indeed, this is probably just about the best moderated board around. StarStrafer, Begemotike, shayborg and Arc Angel Counterstrike are all excellent at their job, and it is largely due to you people that this board is what it is today.

So thanks to all of the residents and visitors, for making this board just about the best there is! Let's hope we'll get many more years out of it!
