Just to let you all know, a beta version of Chessworks 3 has been released. This version is carbonised. Unfortunately its incompatible with older versions of chessworks.

You can get it HERE!

If you hadn't nailed it to the perch it would be pushing up the daisies! It has rung down the curtain and joined the choir invisible! This...is an ex-parrot!

Any suggestion on which port to use? I tried my old user name and password, chess.ambrosia.net, and the default port, and got a connection error. Still works fine in the old version. Shayborg?

BTW, are we having a "tourney" this Saturday, and if so when? I've been a bit busy lately, but I might have time to sneak in for a few games.

If Shayborg's using version 2, it won't work, since it says chessworks 3 is incompatible with older versions.

The problem with the server is that nobody gets on at the same time. There are actually lots of people, but they all come by themselves.

Homer's right, I still have version 2; I'm reluctant to install a beta version -- version 2 has crashed my computer numerous times already -- and most of the people who'll visit the server still have version 2, which is "incompatible" with 3, which means they won't be able to connect. I'd advise everyone to stick with version 2, at least until a final version of 3 is released, as I don't want to rush anyone else into getting beta software.

As for Desert Rat's question, for the last couple of days, school has been crushing me, grinding me into little pieces, and blasting me into oblivion -- I have been on IRC 2 hours or so in the past 4 days, which is very low for me. Also, I'm at school an average of 10 hours or more a day, and much of the rest is taken up by homework and stuff; even if I'm on the computer, it's unlikely that I'll be doing anything on the ChessWorks server. OF is more or less correct as well; I see many people coming on, but few ever meet each other. One way to counter this is to try to find games on IRC, or just stay on the server when you want a game instead of coming by and leaving immediately when you see no one on; if a lot of you do this, it is extremely unlikely that any of you will meet each other.

Thanks for the heads-up, though, Evil Homer.

Nice! I'll download it when I get home if I find time.

<edit> Also noticed that the new version is compatible with Windows as well! It won't help me, but I know that a lot of people here use Windows ... </edit>

ChessWorks 3 has been installed, and the CW3 server is up and running at the same address with the default port number (2405). The old server will still stay up for a little while, but it will soon be killed in favor of the new one. Everyone who plays chess, please upgrade to the newest version ASAP.
