After a long hiatus, I'm back to playing Chrono Trigger.
Well, without further ado, after basically steam rolling my way up to where I am now, suddenly all the boss enemies are wiping the floor with me. It started when D-something-or-other sent out these golem twins, so I went out to do some unfinished business, and and am suddenly feeling very inept. It's more than a little infuriating. Part of the problem could be that I have had Marle and Ayla in my party forever, and all my strategies center around their abilities. Replacing Ayla with Frog proved very deadly - to me.
In any event, what should I do? Going up levels isn't going to gain me much unless I hit the 2000 hp mark or something else as workable against attacks that can do 300 damage on a weaker ally.

Marle's healing magic kicks ass in battle. Be sure to use it, her fighting ability is just alright, so you can pretty much dedicate her to that task. Other than that, just keep leveling up. Oh, and HP in chrono trigger only goes to 999. So you'll just have to heal a lot. Chrono Trigger is actually a pretty easy RPG, i've beaten it about 50 times.

Luminaire is a good attack to use against Dalton's golems. Can't use it on the golem boss because Lavos kills Crono in the next battle (unless you use new game+ on a game that you got to the end of) but it isn't a problem because the golem boss is a big wuss who can't even pull off an attack. The only problems with the golems are their iron orb attacks (HP / 2).

Well the HP of the party I have been using averages around 600, but iron orbs + energy balls kills me a whole lot faster than I can kill the golems. After about two cube tosses, I am forced on the defensive, but all the auras and full tonics in the world couldn't keep me alive longer than the golems can flatten me with their vastly superior speed and two devastating attacks. In this situation Marle's healing would only be of much use if it could heal my whole party 500. 215 to one ally is nothing in comparison to what I'm up against now.

Try to not use physical attacks on the golems, they mimic the attack types that are used on them, and will use iron orb if you don't use magic. And another thing, using Marle's haste ability and your supply of elixers can help alot. If this doesn't help, get the equipment from the blue pyramid (in the present, not the past) and upgrade the sealed treasure chests by going to them in the past and saying no when you are asked to open them, and then opening them in the present.

I've been going around to the treasure chests as of late, but I did not realize that the attacks I was using were physical, though I suppose I shouldn't have eliminated that as a possibility.
Anyway, back to playing I guess.

One last thing:
Did you open the secret rooms yet, one in the place with the people in the beds and the other one in the research area near the blackbird? if you didn't, do it before the scene where the ocean palace is destroyed, because you won't get another chance after the destruction of Zeal's kingdom. You will get the black rock and some tabs from the rooms.

Done! I've been skimming through a walkthrough and finding a trillion things that I missed. But it can get kind of confusing, and I'm reluctant to rely on it. It always says something like, "Keep firing away, and you should win without much trouble," which has practically been my strategy for the whole time until I got where I am now and I simply can't do that and live, i.e. I need to have my entire party healing up and then some to stick around for even five minutes.

Use aura whirl dual tech (Chrono and Marle) which heals your whole party, admitedly you will only increase HP by around 200, but it definately makes the difference.
Frog's heal tech also heals your full party by around 200 HP. I usually play with frog and lucca, as they've got the most powerful dual tech's.

Agh, I just cheezed it so badly you'd think it was a Brood War level or something!

All I did was continuously fire away with Crono's "Ultimate Damage" attack (the name escapes me at the moment) and used Marle and Ayla to heal the party. All the golems ever could do were the wimpiest lightings you ever saw and they died in two seconds. Same with the rest of the bosses I've played after that.

I prefer antipode 3.

So you used Luminaire? Told you so. Works great when combined with the gold stud and Marle's haste ability. The only problem with it is that it has no effect on bosses like the rentinite (in the desert south of the mountains with the broken masamune, after you tell the woman in Zeal to keep the plant despite the queen's wishes).

Some information in advance:
When you fight Queen Zeal in the black omen, make sure to use Ayla and Frog. Four advantages to this: when Zeal uses hallation on you, you can attack with dino tail and frog stomp; when you fight the mammon machine, the upgraded masamune will absorb streingth for Frog from the machine when he attacks it; when you fight Zeal's transformed state, Frog and Ayla's dual tech that combines leap slash and triple kick is useful for doing maximum damage on Zeal's head; and also in the battle with transformed Zeal, you can use charm on Zeal's hands for a prism helm and a prism dress.
