I was just wondering what you all think of emulators (obviously windows for Macintosh). I know this has probably been asked before but I've been thinking about it for a while. Oh, I should mention, this would probably be used for gaming purposes only. Thanks.

Don't buy VPC or any other Mac emulator with the intention of running games. They just can't do it, unless you're runnng a few older windows games(DOS games don't work well in VPC). I've found worms armageddon runs quite well under VPC, but that's about it for good games.

Well what I really want to do with it use the map editor for several games that don't have the editor for Mac. Would it be able to run the editor for say, Heroes III or Unreal Tournament?

They will be slow, should work fine.
There used to be a mac site on http://www.planetunreal.com/ called osx, which explained exactly how to use the unreal tournament editor with VPC. But the page is no longer there

The editor should run fine. It won't be fast, but it should be useable.

Well I went to the store to buy a windows emulator but I ended up getting OS X instead. I think I'm a winner.

On the subject of Heroes III map editor, the map I've been working on has, well, been in stasis for a couple of months due to work. But I'll get back on it and send it your way once the 256x256 double layered glory of it is done. Unfortunately the sheer number of trigger events make it really hard and since the loss condition is to lose a critical hero (who will usually be your strongest), it can take a LONG time to finish, I designed the darn map and it took me 5 attempts and 13 game months to win.

Can't go wrong there. OS X rocks.

Yeah sure, I'd still be interested in playing that game. I've had H3 for over a year and this e-mail address ever since I got online so don't feel in a particular rush though. I can't wait for H4

So how about speed? What emulator is the best for speed? Now, I'm not a rich fellow, but I have sources which may be interested in investing in this. Right now my processer is only 275 mhz - slow. Once a new computer is acquired (800 mhz +) how much could be done then? With a decently fast computer what kind of programs can you emulate?

You should be able to run most apps, but any game more complicated than let's say Worms wouldn't work. And you should have plenty of RAM too.

Heh I tried to run VPC5 once on my old iMac Bondi it took like 8min to bring up the screen
