I always found myslef what they would stick after Chrono for the next title. Break works, but I never thought of it.

*hopes it won't be a repeat of the "Chrono Cross" debacle*

Cool! I hope it will be for the GameCube and not the PS2 or Xbox.

The Escape Velocity series games are the best of their class.

What are you, insane? Sony owns a significant portion of Squaresoft.

Shame... Why do games like Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger always end up coming out badly when ported to the Playstation? Maybe it's just me, but I still don't think that Chrono Cross or Final Fantasy 10 stand up to Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy 5 or 6.

I agree that the Playstation version of Chrono Trigger seemed degraded, it was like they took a timeless masterpiece and edited it for some lame reason.

Agreed, but compared to the other stuff out there, they are still top of the line. There are very few games that match , much less exceed the depth and composition of Squaresoft games in general.

I don't know what everyone's beef with Chrono Cross was. I thought it was excellent in almost every way (with a few small caveats, like the battle music and that horrid "Rock Opera" scene). However, both Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross would probably make my top 10 RPGs of all time list (along with FF7, SeikenDensetsu3, and others). I'm really excited for the third Chrono game.

It would be an extremely bad move for Square to develop or release it for the Gamecube though. 90% of demographic that buys primarily RPGs is on the PS2 now (thanks to FFX, Dark Cloud, Ico, Silent Hill 2, and a few others, but mostly FFX). If Square wants the game to make money and be well-received by fans, it would have to be for the system that most of them own. The Gamecube and Xbox combined right now could not hope to touch the userbase of the PS2. Sony owning a large chunk of Square would seem to be the final nail in the coffin there, as well. And we all saw how good FFX was. I don't think they'll botch it by making it for the PS2 anymore than they would making it for a different system.

I totally disagree. The PS2 has the widest user base for primarily one reason: It's been out longer. The GC is currently selling faster than the XBOX (with it's $250m advertising campaign), and I suspect will eventually sell more copies than the PS2 (All speculation, mind you). And I certainly don't know where you get 90% from.

Chrono Cross was alright, but it had two problems: you couldn't understand how it related to Chrono Trigger until you get 2/3s into it, and it had a humungous learning curve. I've played a few RPGs in my day, and so has my best friend, and we both had a hard time figuring out those stupid colors.

Lots of luck, we're all here to learn anyway.

I think that what you guys are missing is that the system the game is on has no bearing on the quality of the game. Square didn't make Chrono Cross any worse because it was on the playstation then they would have made it if it had been on the N64. Granted, Chrono Trigger was a better game, but not because it came out on the SNES... please. Final Fantasy 7 was an excellent game on the PSX, just as it would have been excellent on the Saturn. I don't care what system this newest Chrono game comes out on as long as they spend the adequate amount of time developing it and don't throw forty characters in a game and call it a sequel.

It will never happen. The PS2 has all of Sony behind it, and there is no way that it will fall behind Nintendo in sales. The PS2 won the console wars before they even began. I just hope the other two systems remain viable, so we are at least given some options.

The reason Chrono Cross was on the Playstation is becasue of their contracts and deals with Sony. It could never been made for the N64 due to the size constraints of cartridges.

As for whether or not I liked Chrono Cross, I didn't. Didn't like FF7 either, or 8. I can't seem to find a single RPG that I like. Only FFT has met my standards for excellence. I'll still play all of the others though. I have to keep my status an an ultrajaded gamer.
