Was Black & White ever released for Mac? Their site is useless, and I haven't been able to find it in any store.

Help is, as always, appreciated.

There's a preview at MacGamer.

It is out, and very good. I can't really add much to that preview, but its wasting quite a lot of my time now.

Any idea where I might be able to get it (think central New Hampshire, so not CompUSA)?

Thanks.

Thanks, I just found it on Amazon. However, aside from being short about 192 mgs of memory, my 3 1/2+ year old computer is short about 33mhz.

I can buy more memory, but should those extra few mhz make a difference?

I have heard reports of lower end computers being able to run it-even those a little short in the processor pedartment. I plan to try it on my friends older machine over spring break. I can then resurect this thread 3 weeks from now to tell you how it went.

If I were you, though, I'd wait till I got a better machine.

Quick question(and maybe the most important) : What kind of video card do you have?

I don't know if you've played Black & White, but in case you haven't, an important part of the game is expanding your "area of influence", the only area within which you can exhibit many of your godlike powers. (Picking up objects and people comes readily to mind.) I think he was making an admittedly bad pun about that.

Good that 33mhz aren't going to matter, to answer your question:
I'm pretty sure I'm running a RAVE card, which I think B&W supports. Getting a new computer isn't out of the question, but it's got some thin odds going for it right now.

Thanks a bunch guys, jspoon, make sure to email me with your results, and/or post them here.

Actually, I believe the games graphics are OpenGL based. Pretty much any card that supports RAVE has OpenGL, though.

You might be able to get away without the 33mhz, but.... I'm guessing that you're running a 333mhz iMac, or possibly the 266mhz? In that case, I'm afraid that your video card probably won't be sufficient. Black and White requires at least 8MB of VRAM, and yours would have 6MB at maximum.

Of course, if you're using a 266mhz G3, with an 8MB+ video card, it should be able to run. Maybe not fantastically, but it'd still be playable.

Actually, it's a 300mhz desktop. It looks like I'm only running 2mgs of video memory though, so I guess a new computer is probably my best bet. It's looking like my chances are getting better, so I'll just have to wait.

Thanks alot everybody.
