Damnit, I'm going to regret posting this...

I noticed you moved my thread - yeah, sorry I did put it in the wrong place - thanks! :-)

And... why the cryptic grin, may I ask?

<edit> By the way, the game looks pretty darn interesting, though I still have no idea (after looking briefly at the site) what it's about. Care to enlighten us?

Heh yeah, you're right - they really need to get an FAQ put up there :-) Perhaps I'll write one for them...

Basically, though I refrain from saying this in so many words, it is EV in 3D with no Multiplayer, and quite a few completely different design ideas of my own. It will feature a 3D galaxy for the map view (already done, it's nice and pretty - watch one of the movies :-) although you fly around the systems on a flat 2D plane, to keep the fun physics of EV-like games.

I am still yet to announce it officially - that will probably come when I am done with the engine, and I can relax and make content for it :-)

Also, to be honest, it hasn't been worked on in a while - I've been working on another, smaller 2D game called Freefall - http://www.aelius.com/phish/freefall/ for screenshots. It is nearly done, but those screenshots are actually an older version.

I'm making both games with BlitzBasic3D, which is currently a PC-only software development package, but will come out for MacOS X in September. By then, Unity will be much nearer to completion, and I'll just be able to recompile a different version, and it should work in OS X :-D.

Summary: Blitz3D is l33t, and it is coming to mac!

Wow! That looks fantastic, Phish. Is Unity coming out for Mac then? Escape Velocity in 3D is exactly what we have all been waiting for

Freefall looks pretty sweet too, reminds of Ambrosia's games. Is that going to be multiplayer?

Blitzbasic... is that like Klik 'n' Play? No offence, but that was crap tongue.gif Still, if it is 3D, it must have something going for it!

Well, I'm aiming for it to be a lot more non-linear than EV, however there WILL be an end to the game.

There is one underlying plot, but for most of the game, it doesn't have much significance. Each of the factions have attributes such as agressiveness, moral belief (evilness) etc. Based on a load of these, the computer makes a large selection of missions available to you. For example, an agressive faction A who hates faction B may give you an infiltration mission, if they trust you enough.

And since the factions' stats are randomly generated each time, the game is TOTALLY different every time you play it.

Also, a very expansive system is being designed for the missions, so that if a load of people make additional, interesting ones, then you can simply drop them in your missions folder, and the whole game will become even more interesting because so much variation is possible :-)

Don't worry though, these side quests won't all be small and unrelated - missions could be as large as the designer wants to make them.

The game will have huge potential, it will just need a *lot* of missions of varying sizes to be written in order for it to be interesting :-)

Still the question remains.....Is it for Mac?

And then there were the toe-socks...

Yes, of course tongue.gif Why else would I be posting here? Just to agonise you?

The screenshots are amazing! I'm bookmarking this site and coming to it often!

Two things though.
[list=1]
[*] Allow the user to turn on and off that white spatial grid during flight. Some may find it a little odd. But I think it's a little cool.
[*] Release it for PC as well as Mac.

Yeah, I was thinking of doing that... the reason it is there is because if it isn't there, when you are moving, you don't get any impression of movement. In EV, there are the stars going past beneath you, but in Unity there isn't anything really - you are going so slowly in relation to the whole galaxy.

That won't be a problem, sir :-)

I'm currently developing it on PCs, and then when BlitzMax is released in September, I'll iron it out so that it works cross platform.

You are my saviour. This better not be vaporware.

If this works out, it might start a religion on these boards. Be careful!

That's why I said this:

You see, I told myself that I wouldn't officially announce it until my engine was done, that way people wouldn't get their hopes up. On the other hand, I need encouragement, because it's hard doing this in my free time. I know exactly why so many projects have become vapourware. So I've been going places, of relatively small size to ask what people think. Then, when I'm ready to officially announce it, the big news sites will get to know, and then everyone. Until then... shhh

Yeah sorry, I think so. I haven't seen the guy who maintains it online for quite a while, so I don't know what's up with that...

I'd recommend making a preliminary official site in case things like this happen.
