I don't know if it's just me, but D2 seems to lag like crazy on my machine.

I have a Firewire iBook, 366Mhz, 128 MB RAM, 8 MB VRAM, and I'm using 280 MB of Virtual Memory. All this seems to be enough to run D2, but it still lags a lot. I could barely play the game when I was fighting Radament...

What should I do? Should i turn off some features? Get more RAM? Thanks.

Namely I would suggest:
a)Telling us which features you have turned on
b)but essentially, I would suggest setting the resolution to 640xWhatever (the 800xwhatever mode is laggy on my cpu)
c)Dedicating as much RAM to the game as you can afford to.
d) if you can, turn off virtual memory.
e)any other snazzy non-gameplay related features ought to be turned off until further notice.
F)you might want to consider adding more physical RAM
I'm using and iMac 333mhz with an ATI Rage card and 192mb of RAM and the game runs fine as long as I sacrifice some unnecessary perks.

It's your virtual memory. I used to have a ridiculously low amount of ram, and used vram to compensate. When I first got started on D2, I could hardly play because all of the freezeloading and lagtime.

aggg, I couldnt stand the lag anymore so I quit D2. It would freeze on me every seven steps, and I was in hell mode which meant I lost exp every time. After a while it just wasnt worth it anymore.

Real RAM is the best solution here. Or you could just try to turn off everything you don't need before you play

Didnt work for me, and I had a good connection too. Ill hop on from time to time so my charactor doesnt get deleted but Ive mostly had enough of the lag. D2 lasted as long as I could keep playing it. And that time went out midyear last year.

Weird im playing D2exp on a 233mhz iMac with 6MB 3D and 160 RAM, and I only experiencing lag when Im playing online.

I've been getting lagged out a lot more recently. Try turning the music off if you have it on, I know that this helps quite a bit.

The other day I took a trip to the first Act 5 waypoint, and kept freezing about 5 steps north of it, where a medium-sized group of monsters was (unique and it's minions). The only way that I didn't die was by hitting escape, up, and return, even though I couldn't see the effect. It was insanely obnoxious.

thats actually pretty funny. What really sucks though is a lot of lag when in nm or hell difficulties. especially when you're trying to level up, because you'll have wasted all your hard work if you die.
