Probably II and IX. But I prefer other games by Square than the Final Fantasy series, such as Chronotrigger and Seiken Densetsu III.

Does the Final Fantasy movie have much relation with the games?

All I know about the Final Fantasy movie is that it has an awesome soundtrack. I'm the classical / John Williams fan...

Each Chapter of FF is different from each other. They all take place on different worlds and have different main characters. There are some re-occuring characters like summons, moogles, chocobos, and other things. (If you haven't played Final Fantasy you probably don't know what i'm talking about) The movie was like the games because it wasn't a retelling of a previous FF, but a whole new story.

In my opinion, FFVIII was the best. Everyone tells me that im crazy, that it was the worst, absolutely terrible. I loved it. The graphics were sweet, the sound was great, and the storyline and game play rocked. Plus the junction system was pure genius.

They're remaking FF's 7,8, and 9 for the PS2. So im definately getting FFVIII and FFIX. I can do with my current copy of FF7.

Well, the movie wasn't really as similar to the games as the games are to each other. The games have common elements, a few certain things that are included in each game. The only one of these elements that made it to the Movie was the character Sid, as there is a character by that name in each FF game. In the games, however, it's spelled "Cid." Other than that, the only similarity is the somewhat magical/mystical/spiritual aspect of the plot.

As for my favorite, I'm with Vice Admiral Jon: definitely FF8. It was the most unique of any of the games. The junction system may seem complicated at first, but its easy to get used to. And I actually enjoyed not having to buy and equip specific things (armor, weapons, etc.) for each part of my characters' bodies (head, arms, body, legs). Plus, I much prefer stocking spells rather than being limited by the MP system. I'm also much more of a sci fi fan than a fantasy fan, which means games like FF6-8 (and I believe 10 is sci fi-ish too) appeal to me in that way as well.

I think that FF7 was the best. It was the first RPG I've ever played. (RPG's are now my favorite) I don't care what you say but when Siphiroth (I don't ever know how to pronounce his name) was walking through the fire, WOW , that scene gave me chills. All the FMV's where creepy and cool. The fact that Cloud's past was so twisted made the story a lot better. Then near the end finding out that Cloud was not really who he thought he was.

I also agree that FF8 was very exiting. I love the card game! The FMV's are more common and detailed. It's just that I have not finished it. The first time I got to the end of the 3rd CD when my PS emulartor crashed messing up the memory cards. Now I'm again at the end of the 3rd CD but have no urge to play it.

Since only mikee and me have probably played them all, I'd say FF9 was the best...followed by 7, and 3. FF8 had a very weak storyline, and made things overly complex. I personally think Junctioning is just a fancy word and a terribly overly complex system for a simple operation. FF8 graphics, although pretty good, doesn't match games like FF9 or Chrono Cross. FF8 sprites seem to be missing frames on the characters, making them turn very rough. The backgounds are beautiful, however, and the music rocks (the usualy awesomeness of Nobuo Uematsu).

Best rpg by square, Chrono Cross. It's not as popular as the FF series, but it rocks in every way possible that FF couldn't deliver. Better soundtrack (one of the best video game soundtracks ever IMO. Kudos to Yasunori Mitsuada) and the gameplay and fighting system is BRILLIANT! Elements and summoning is AWESOME and the storyline not only rocks, but grabs you and keeps you following. It's pretty much a perfect rpg IMO. Beautiful graphics, great unique gameplay and battle system, awesome storyline, INCREDIBLE characters. Each unique with its own attacks, storylines and stuff.

Here's my rating having played them all, all numbers are from the Japanese releases. 8, 7, 5, 9, 6, 4, 2, 3, 1, and tactics, mq, and the gameboy game all suck arsehairs. 8 had an excellent storyline, superb graphics and music, and was overall one of the best games I've ever played. 7 had some of the best music in the FF series, but the plot was never resolved too well, they needed a good solid extra 10 hours of gameplay and then it would have been fine. The 5th one rocked, the job system was simply the greatest.

And Chrono Cross, while good, is not the best squaresoft game, especially since Chrono Trigger is 5 times better. I enjoyed CC, although I didn't like the ATB-less battle system and I thought there were simply too many characters with not enough development, it was the same problem I had with 6. Altogether a wholly enjoyable game, but not the best. I would probbly rank CT as pretty much the greatest game ever, followed closely by most of the FF series as well as a few non-square games that I won't go into mentioning.

The movie was good, but could have been better. I think the thing I most disliked was that Nobuo Uematsu, who is my lord and saviour , did not do the music for it.

To clarify this for the more casual fan, the original Final Fantasies 1-3 were relesed in Japan for the Famicom (NES in America). Then FF's 4-6 were released for the Super Famicom (SNES), followed by 7-9 for the PlayStation. In the United States, however, FF1 came out for the NES, and 2 & 3 were skipped. FF4 (the "easytype" edition) was later released for the American SNES as FF2. Then FF5 was also skipped (which is a pity since it is second only to FF8) because it was deemed too hard for American gamers. FF6 was the next game to hit the U.S., but it was made slightly easier and renamed FF3. Every Final Fantasy starting with 7 has been the same game as its Japanese counterpart. And the Game Boy FF games were part of a different RPG series altogether in Japan, but given the FF name in the U.S. because it was Square's most popular brand. Final Fantasy Anthology for the American PlayStation is a port of the Japanese FF5 & 6, with new CGI movies added. And the more recent Final Fantasy Collection contained FF4 and Chrono Trigger, again with new movies and also with an added 2-player option for FF4.

Did that clear everything up?

My two favourites were 6 and 8, those being the only two I've bothered to complete.

In FF8 I was very attached to the characters and the animation seemed more....adult than Final7. FF8 had several mysterious secrets that you could find if you looked. I mean, you all worked out who Squall's parents were, right?

I also became addicted to the card game, which my friends have since recreated fully. It took as a couple of months to get it all fixed, but it was well worth it.

FF6 was pure class. It was most definately one of the best games on the SNES.

My brother has played 7,8,9. I watched him play the first two and didn't find it good enough, except for the Chocobo races in 7. Then I saw FF9 and immediatly went. So I vote for 9.

by far the best FF game was 3(not sure what # it was in japan, but it was 3 in US). It had an awesome storyline and characters, and during the second part of the game was largely freeform. I hate FF 7 mostly b/c of its weak plot and crappy graphics. the others im kinda neutral about. FF 3 is awesome!!!!!!

Final Fantasy Seven, is, in my opinion, simply one of the best games ever. It was the thing that got me into Squaresoft, and kept me there when it was more fun to see how many times I had to hit my head on the wall to knock myself out, in comparison to FF8. FF6/3 is probably my second favorite, followed by FF9. FFT is closely tied with FF10 for fourth favorite. Another key factor to FF7 and FFT being good is that I have Connectix VGS ( which Sony forced Connectix to disown, curse their black, twisted souls [means no more updates { means no more compatible games}]) and FF7 and FFT work on it, while no others do. I can play FF3 on my emualator, so woop dee doo for it, too.
