Desert-Rat
I have played broodwar and starcraft for 1 year now and I wanted to know which race does you like best?

I like the Zerg becasue

*easy building

*cheap production

*massive waves of zerg are hard to stop

*no brain required

What I don't like about them

*Nothing

Terrans are obviously the best, but I prefer to play Protoss.

Yes but initally zerg were the best but blizzard had made them less powerfull since version 5 or was it 3 can't remeber

Well, it seems to me that the Terrans have the most versitle cheap units, the mighty Protoss have strong single units, and the Zergs are kind of fun with trillions of little Zerggies to do your bidding. I usually play as the Terrans because you can reuse Command Centers for gathering resources. I am a fan of do-everything-but-poorly units, so I build more than necesary amounts of Goliaths. I am just strange.

This question is kind of like asking which Strand is the best in EVO ... I personally prefer the Terrans because they're more versatile, a happy medium between the maniacal building of individually weak units (the Zerg) and the ponderous construction of huge Death Stars (the Protoss).

My favorite is definitely the Zerg. I have recently switched my strategies to mass zerglings and hydralisks - I just came off battle.net having beaten Ned.K666[scum], the best player in my clan, with a 16-overlord zergling-hydralisk drop

Well, I have to say, my favorite, when it comes to playing, are the protoss. The whole playing style they require is just up right my lane.

Terrans are by far the most adaptable race (kudos to Blizzard for utilizing this so well) becuase they can move and relocate a base... for terrans it IS entirely possible to start over and actually manage if their original base is invaded and overrun, their tenacity and staying alive is amazing. Being able to repair bunrs, vehicles, units, etc, is really tremendously usefull.
Frankly, when I'm playing against a computer or human, I fear terrans by far the most. Their siege tanks are arguably one of the best units in the game, and who hasn't learned to fear ghosts?

However, Zerg are lethal early on. That's when they are best... and, later, if they manage to catch you at the transition point between air and ground with Guardians and scourge... a VERY nasty combo.

But, once the war machines get rolling... protoss units just plain shred through zerg like mulch.

In reality, all the races are very well balanced. In general, I find zerg to be the easiest to beat, but some players are fantastic with them... Deadboy is one such, actually, he wiped me off the face of the map the one time we played.. although I DID nearly beat him off.

All your lev are belong to ME!

Anyways, I fancy Protoss myself. High Templar and Speedlots kill anything. The most annoying race to be against is Terran, especially when it's a good terran player (had a bad experience with that today, the bastard took over the whole ****ing map. Oh, and he was ranked #3 on the ladder ). Zerg also rock, even if they are hard to use properly...

My favourite style of playing is taking a few tanks and mass upgraded stimmed Marines+Medics to the party. If they seem to be going carriers/BC, I take some ghosts along...

There is no "best race"... each race has an advantage over one other race, and thus the cycle continues. Zerg over Protoss, Protoss over Terran, and Terran over Zerg. But, that really only applies to the godly players; for the most of us there is no real difference, it's merely based on skill.

If you think about it, much depends on the map and the person you're playing with.

For example: go ahead and try to play on Blood Bath with Terran against a Zerg player; I gaurantee you that the Terran versatility won't help you againt a Zergling rush.

Then again if you play Terran on a map such a Green Valleys, which is huge and has ledges, that same Terran versatility can win you the game. It all depends on terrain and opponents...

As for my personal favorite race, I like Protoss or Zerg - or, if given the chance, both

errm... actually, if you strategically place your barracks, supply depot, and bunker (which will be out before zergling rush comes) and take a second to support your marines with your SCV's against the first wave of zerglings, a Terran can easily outdo a zerg player in blood bath. It's all about how and where you build. Every second of stalling counts.

On BGH, I've beaten 3 7pools at once before. It's no real problem, get an early bunker and support with SCV's fighting and repairing. We won that game, too.

Actually, all races ARE equal, it's just that you should never let certain situations develop, for example, a Terran setting up shop outside a Zerg base is insanely difficult to budge, especially if he has science vessels.

Everything's vulnerable.... for example, a pack of zealots or dark templars would just butcher that configuration. The tanks would hit a few from far away, but when everything gets close, it's squishy Marine guts all over the place.

Blizzard made it so that anythings blockable-the problem is, though, that on battle net you end up trying to stop the same rush build order over and over. It seems like half the people nowadays use the exact same strategy that they all ind offline...a bit annoying to say the least-no variation. And if you are playing a team game, and you don't folow each races specific build order(IE, terrans MUST build a bunker flanked by two supply depots at their chokepoint), your 12 y/o ally starts complaining and complaining.

Heh, that became a bit of a rant.

Umm...I like the zerg cause I have this dream of using defilers and burrow effectively someday, something I haven't seen anyone do yet(in the games I've played).

-Yorick
Desert-Rat
Heh I agree that most people use the same tactic when playing on battle.net
And 4vs4@bgh must be the lamest of them all, it ain't very challenging. Fortunaly one base wonder tactic doesn't apply to all games.

I see a lot of people saying that the humans are clearly the best...may I ask why? I see no reason why they are better than the other two.

Human-Tank Rush

Protoss-Photon Cannon Boxing In

Zerg-Mass Hydras

You think maybe if the game was slowed down to normal speed the games would be any different? No one online seems to want to have fun anymore, just steal other peoples startegies and yell at you if you don't. If it keeps up I'm gonna start killing my teammates in team games.

Those strategies are not feasible anyway. Cannon least of all, any decent player will expand all over the map while you turtle whore cannons. Tank rush? Gimme a break. It's too slow, tanks aren't powerful on their own and they cost a lot compared to other early game units. Mass Hydras is feasible, but there are easy counters against it for every race. For Zerg, massed cracklings with mutalist support, for terran, tanks, and for protoss, Reavers and Psi storm.

Ph33r me, n00b biatch!

I've recently had about eight games in which I repeatedly tried playing as terran and repeatedly lost humiliatingly.

I had two games against david[scum] who killed me twice with f**king zealot rushes, and one game against Whiox[scum], who sucks, in which he beat me with two dark templar. Being a fool, I completely forgot detectors so he ran straight past my siege tank/bunker blockade. Yaargh!

Well, I wasn't talking about cannon turtling, I was talking about building the cannons into your base, I've seen this tactic used in about 1/3 of the games i play against protoss. The point isn't whether or not these tactics are easy to beat, the point is they get boring. How fun is it to beat the same tactic on the same map 20 times in a row? Still not seeing the point? How often do you get surprised when playing against someone? For me, it's not very often.

Goot Terran vs. Protoss strat:

Build 8 SCV's, start supply depot at 'choke point'. At 11 SCV's, construct a barracks. At 12, build a refinery. At around 15, add your second depot to the wall. At around 18, construct 3 factories, while producing SCV's. Add one machine shop to the first factory and research spider mines. Proceed to get vulture speed upgrade, build eight of 'em, run around his base laying mines and f*ck up his workers. Imagine a zealot running into the worker line to attack a vulture tripping a mine. Probes don't trip mines, so the mine will pop up, and the splash damage will take out a ****eload of workers as well as damaging/killing the zealot. Go on to produce Vultures, Tanks and Goliaths. When you reach 40-50 supply, expand. Proceed to build factories and upgrade with extra cash. Get science vessels pretty soon, for better detection than spider mines (cloaked units still trip mines ).

Hope it helps.

Just as you know

At 8 probes/drones/scvs you have a surplus with 100minerals (pylon)
At 9 150 minerals (barrack)

This can be good to know

Hands down: Protoss.

?Zealots are a match for 2 marines and 4 zerglings. (Trust me...I worked it out)
?2 Dragoons are as powerful as 2 goaliaths.
?Dark Templars kill unupgraded Marines in 1 hit.
?Dark Templars are always cloaked. They can take out an entire Terran settlement without any terrans fighting back.?Dark Archon mind control-You can take over SCV's and Drones to get 36 Carriers. (Yes, it's been done without cheating.)
?Carriers.
?Interceptors.
?Nifty sounds.
?The warriors have 5 foot long hair.

And, in case you didn't notice, you get a seperate control for each of them. IE: Terrans have to build their own Supply De Pots. And, Zerg Overlords, and such. I usually be Protoss, mind control a Drone, get rid of all my Probes, build a helova lotta drones, and have them mine. It frees up units for my Battlecruiser, Carrier, Arbiters, and Observer kick-@$$ team. The Arbiters keep cloaked, observers detect wraiths, and you might throw a few Scrouges in there...
