Or for that matter, all dual usb iBook owners as well. I just don't have the video RAM required to run the game, and the iBook cannot be upgraded.

I'll have to see what I can do with what I got. Notice that Mac users get twice the video RAM requirement and a 400 MHz PII doesn'tequal a 400 MHz G3. So either the Mac programmers are bad at optimization, the Mac can't do stuff as well, or they didn't want to make it look like the Mac had lower requirements for processor speed. If only they were doing a ß for the Mac version.

This is true with all blizzard games, I dont know why. My guess is that you could probably play it on an ibook and it would work, just not perfectly.

Their current "window" is first half 2002. So... basically any time until the middle of June.

The beta version of war3 is spread all over the net, and I know lot's of people who have played it -- it's supposed to be very good. I imagine it's not too far off.

Diablo II, horrible a game as it was, worked (though terribly) on a 200MHz 604e with 64MB RAM. If you really want to play WC3 (I don't see why anyone would given that it's just a rehash of WC, WC2, and SC), then you can probably do it on a machine slightly below the requirements. Blizzard is not known for very clean or efficient Mac ports (anyone played the OS X version of D2? It's horrible), so I wouldn't get my hopes up that it'll run beautifully.

I beg to differ; Blizzard's Mac ports are among the best out there for gaming companies, and they actually have more or less simultaneous releases. Also, DII Carbon runs fine for me on this 400 Mhz G4...

Yeah, the Mac version of D2 came out about a month after the PC version, and the D2 Exp Pack came out for PC and Mac at the same time.

I'm curious. My friend loaned me his copy of D2, and he's a PC user. Did they start manufacturing cross-platform discs after they finished making the game for mac?

I know the D2 Expansion came on a hybrid disc, but the D2 discs that I have (version 1.0) aren't I believe, but the latest discs probably are (it's just plain smarter from an inventory standpoint).

Sorry to drag up yet another topic but a few things to help you guys out. I have been following the beta very closely.
1. War3 has gone Golden Master. Release date is July 3.
2. From what I know, software rendering is supported, though it is no where near as good.
